So, do you understand the importance of the 8th house? Every house is some mantra to some other house. that Is why the 4th house and the 8th house are called the caturaśra. It is a Devī-function. That is why the 4th house is the house of healing. 4th is the house of natural curing. Why is the 4th house so important of a house? It is the house of happiness and the primary happiness starts from the Toilet. If you have a good toilet, the first thing is that you will be happy that day. If your toilet is not good in morning, your day will be not good. It is the simplest thing about the 8th house. These basic rules are very important in Jyotiṣa. Similarly, the 12th house is mantra to the 8th house and is the house of daily rejuvenation. Even if you are dying, the power to rejuvenate back to life, will come from the 12th house. Why is rejuvenation important, for what purpose? For sustenance. If you don’t rejuvenate, you can’t sustain and will die soon. Similarly for a Car, if it is not maintained, it will finish. So, all mantra for sustenance, must come from the 12th house. And when you learn Mantra Śāstra, you will learn that, Dvādaśākṣarī mantra are very important mantras because these are mantra of rejuvenation. If someone is dying, these mantras can rejuvenate that person. Because any Dvādaśākṣarī mantra has the power of the Sudarśana Chakra behind it. When you understand more and more of Mantra Śāstra, you will understand that 12-akshara mantra of any Devatā, you worship any Devatā with a 12-syllable mantra, basically it will be Viṣṇu who will take the form of that Devatā and come to you.
My Gurudev used to tell me that don’t change your mantra too fast. I said, “Why? Today I will do Rām tomorrow I will do Kṛṣṇa, day after tomorrow I will do Nrsimha, then the next day I will do Śiva, My wish”! So what? He said, “always remember when you sit for the Pūjā that yesterday’s mantra is already with you. So, God is already waiting for you in a certain dress. The moment you change the mantra, God has to change his dress and come. How many times will you make him change dress”? He said such a beautiful thing to me. He gave such a nice example: “what Fun do you get by making GOD change dress everyday”? What difference does it make? I realized it. It is my mental fixation. It is my problem and the poor lord has to change his clothes every time for me. So I realized about Dvādaśākṣarī mantra, one should pick up a good one like Om Namo Bhagavate Vāsudevāyaa, so that you sustain and rejuvenate everyday. It is a fantastic mantra. This is the mantra which is called the signature mantra of Vedavyāsa. It has the power of rejuvenation, you cannot die. Because if you can rejuvenate everyday, you cannot die. All these Purāṇa, this mantra is the first mantra and the signature mantra of Vedavyāsa. That is why the Purāṇa cannot die. Do you now understand why the Purāṇa cannot die? Any dvādaśākṣara mantra has this power. Why it has this power now you understand.
What is power of aṣṭākṣarī mantra? Somebody asked me, “why are we doing the eight-syllable mantra because it is going to the eighth house”. They did not understand, there is a mantra to every Bhāva. The mantra Bhāva is the eighth house and the result that you are getting is that of the fourth house. So, people who do Om Namo Nārāyaṇāyaa, are very happy people. You feel very happy. Because the 4th house is activated from that mantra. All the impurities are leaving your body. All waste is going out from the body. Om Namo Nārāyaṇāyaa: waste will go. Do you understand what I am trying to say now? The eighth house is the house of longevity. It is your Nija Doṣa, I.e. your own fault. If you are having constipation it’s because “YOU” did not drink water, it is nobody else’s fault. That is eighth house.
If you are having diseases, these diseases that are coming from the 8th house are because of your own uncleanliness. if you don’t have clean habit it will show diseases that will come from the 8th house. Nija Doṣa, Nija means my own, doṣa means fault. It is not the fault of somebody else. It is coming because of oneself. You can’t blame anybody else for that. You have consumed something wrong.
Gopal Jī, you have sun debilitated with Rāhu in 8th house. What have you eaten? Never eat the flesh of creatures ruled by planets in the 8th house. Never do that. That Nija Doṣa will ruin your health. If Sūrya is in 8th house. Sūrya rules birds. Don’t eat bird-flesh. If Chandra is in 8th house, Chandra rules cows or bulls (taurus) and such creatures, chatuṣpada, and these kind of chatuṣpada creatures. Don’t eat their flesh. Śani will rule buffalo, don’t eat it’s flesh. whichever Graha is in 8th house, don’t kill and eat it. If you kill and eat it, your own fault, Nija Doṣa, will come on your head. you will not be able to get out of it. You will have terrible disease because of that. Don’t destroy anything related to the creature ruled by the planet in the 8th house. It is a simple rule. If Rāhu or Ketu is in 8th house, then, don’t kill snakes. Don’t go to Chinese hotels and eat such dishes. Rāhu in the 8th house: don’t eat frog. Do not eat anything pertaining to the 8th house, the planet in the 8th house, and the sign that Is occupied by the 8th lord. If your 8th lord is in Siṃha Rāśi.
See, houses and Rāśi are different and we have been very clear on both of them. You should not get confused when I am talking about house and Rāśi so that we are talking in the similar language. When I ask which Rāśi the 8th lord is sitting in, you should tell me the Rāśi. I am not bothered about the house placement of the 8th lord. It does not matter. What matters is the Rāśi placement of the 8th lord. You will really see that It is very important. if the 8th lord is in Mīna Rāśi, don’t touch fish. If the 8th lord is in Karkaṭa Rāśi, don’t eat crabs. understand? The food which is prohibited for you, if you eat that food, you can die. This is a warning I am giving you today. Please note it down. Don’t break the rules, how will bad things come on you if you don’t break the rules. If you break the rules then only bad things will come. If you aware of the rule and you don’t break the rules, bad things will not come on you. Ok? So, the importance of the 8th house. How many of you have got planets in the 8th house?

Student: Jupiter is in 8th house.
Gurujī: Jupiter, so what you should not eat? Each of you have to tell me what you don’t have to eat. Tell me. Sweet animals? Come on, tell me, give me an answer.
Student: I am vegetarian.
Gurujī: Luckily you are vegetarian. Okay. But generally you must keep in mind. Also among vegetables, try to make a list of the vegetables indicated by these planets. It’s a very important exercise. This exercise will really help you after you leave from here. This is practical Jyotiṣa, if Sun comes in the 8th house, tell him not to eat chicken etc. If Rāhu is in 8th house, don’t eat snakes, what else, what else Rāhu rules, snakes and such creatures. Ketu rules fishes, Ketu’s Mūlatrikoṇa is pisces, it rules fishes don’t eat fishes. Saturn rules buffalo. Moon rules cow. Maṅgala rules sheep because of (aries sign). In vegetables, tell me the vegetable ruled by Maṅgala. Every planet rules vegetables. Radish is rules by Rāhu. Chillies are rules by Sun. You must know. I am not going to sit and make the list for you. You must study the text and make your own list and exchange it with each other so that your list will become bigger and bigger. You will read one book, you will have a list, and other student will read other book. If you exchange the notes, you will have the finest list possible. Please do this as an exercise. what are the items of food indicated by these planets and which you must never eat. Not we are clear about the 8th house
What was the question that you were asking?
Student: If 4th lord goes to the 8th house, according to what you have taught, we should give away reduce the planet which has gone from good to bad. But if we leave the 4th lord, it will not be good to let go of 4th lord.
Gurujī: What is the real meaning of 4th lord in the 8th house? what Is the real meaning. 8th is the house of the Nija Doṣa. When the 4th lord goes to the 8th house, you are having Nija Doṣa pertaining to your 4th house. What is 4th house? It is house of the mother. What are types of the mother. First is your own mother, second is the birth-place, it’s your mother land. Such a person has to let go of these two, this is the greatest sorrow. There is no bigger pain than this. Ram had always got one dream, I don’t want to be king of all, This huge lanka and orissa and all that. I want to king of ayodhya. Why? Because it is my 4th house.
And that Is what Śani wants to take away from me. He will give me everything but he is sitting in my fourth house. You see the point? When the 4th lord is going to the 8th house, you are having Nija Doṣa pertaining to the 4th house. So, you may have to leave your home land. You may have to stay away from your mother. You may be left out by your mother. You may feel deprived from her. So, such thing come pertaining to fourth house. Ok. I am telling your a simple principle today. It’s very simple. “Videśa”; (meaning foreign country); if any body goes to foreign country, then, just to temporarily understand the benefit of the planet (although Kuṇḍalī is not changing), treat the 12th house as the Lagna. It is done to understand the effect of the planets. If someone goes to foreign country, which Graha comes to kendra and which Graha goes to duḥsthāna; is known through this simple rule.
I am giving you a horoscope, let us study this horoscope with this simple rule. Pisces Lagna, Venus and sun in the 1st house, Rāhu in the 5th house, Moon in 9th, 10th is empty, 11th house has saturn and Ketu; and the 12th house has got jupiter, mars and Mercury forming some very powerful rājayogas. See the horoscope very carefully. The Lagna has an exalted planet. So, that means the person is born in a very comfortable family. Venus is exalted, right from childhood the native is going to enjoy vehicles; is born with a golden spoon. That Venus is vargottama. Everything he has got. But you see that the 8th lord is in Lagna, and the 6th lord is also in Lagna. So, from the Lagna, you can see that the effects of the planets in kendra, which are all bad planets. Lord of the 6th house, lord of the 8th house; they got everything in home, but whenever he gave exams, he failed guaranteed. He was brilliant but he seldom passed the examinations. All the bad things are in Lagna. All rotten things are in his head all the time. Lagna is Buddhi; what Is happening to the Buddhi? All the time, playing around, TV, entertainment, movie, all the time with friends; perpetual, perpetual entertainment. So, out of complete frustration, his father decided to send him abroad. He wanted him to make something of himself. He failed in every engineering college, so he was sent abroad. By going abroad, what will be the effect on him? Treat the 12th house as the Lagna. So, make Kuṁbha as the Lagna. Make 12th house as the Lagna. Now you see that the 6th lord Sun and the 8th lord Venus have gone to the 2nd house. Lordship is not changing, is kept original. But we are changing the effect of Grahas. We are making kuṁbha as the Lagna, and seeing this powerful rājayoga (in 12th house), Mercury as 4th lord and 6th lord in the 12th house, 2nd and 9th lord in 12th house, Lagna and 10th lord is in 12th house. Lords of all the kendra and 2nd lord and 9th lord are sitting there. Moon, now, is in 10th house from there (12th house as Lagna). Śani and Ketu which are very bad for Mīna Lagna are now in 12th house. Isn’t it first-class? The moment he went abroad he suddenly became very serious. He became very serious about his life, about his education. He has really done well for himself. It unbelievable that this person who was failing in everything in life and who was a shame for his father, would do so well in life.
You should notice very carefully the change in effect. Then the lords of the 6th house, the lord of the 8th house, are in kendra to Lagna; the person is going to have more success outside the place of his birth. Simultaneously, Lagna lord and 9th lord have gone into 12th house. What is 8th house? 8th house is the 9th house from the 12th. Count 9 houses from the 12th house, it’s the 8th house. So, when a planet is in 8th house, what will you say? Classic dictum for 4th lord in 8th house: “person shall have property in foreign land”. If this 4th lord that Is in the 8th house, is very strong; the native shall have great properties in foreign lands. Condition is there, if goes to foreign land, will rise in status and become king. The kinds of properties this person shall have, will have such fortune regarding properties. But in his/her own country, won’t get even a hut. This is how the Grahas work. The same planet, the 4th lord, when It is in the 8th house, is in trine from the 12th house. It is in Bhāgya from the 12th house; will have huge properties. So, any grah position, never call it good or bad. If 4th lord is in 8th house, never say that this person will not have properties. I have seen the richest men having the biggest properties, have 4th lord in the 8th house. People like you “The Mittals” for example: they are people who have gone from Kolkata, and went on to be the richest in steel in the world, because of such planets. 8th house is very strong over there. The power to rejuvenate. When 8th house gets very strong, it has power to rejuvenate. Such people get hold of sick industries, and turn them around and make it successful. I have seen people with great malefic planets in 9th house, go abroad and succeed like anything. Why? Because the moment they are going abroad, the malefic in the 9th house, is behaving as if it is in the 10th house.
It will give Rājayoga. Do you understand the difference? One is malefic in your ninth house; the moment you went abroad, it is behaving as if it is in 10th house for you. So, it will definitely give Rājayoga, and will help you to rise.
Student’s question: It can also happen if someone instead of going into foreign land, just leaves his/her home. Can it?
Gurujī: Yes, it can happen. But it depends on what Is the definition of “foreign”. Nice question. What is definition of “foreign”? For a person from Andhra Pradesh, Delhi is definitely foreign. Do you understand? Do you see my point? I want you to understand the point. Complete culture, food-habits, everything is totally different. The unification of India is something very new. It has happened after 1947. Before that, it never was. As far as Kerala is concerned, it is the first time they realized that their capital is Delhi and not next door. It is after 10s of 1000s of years. So, what we are experiencing is a revolution kind of thing in India. I am from Odisha, my culture is completely different. Believe me, it is totally different. Many people from Odisha, believe that I am not from Odisha. I have to talk in language of Oriya, to show to them that I belong to Odisha. Otherwise, they think that I am from Delhi, that I belong to Delhi. See the point? So, it is the question of culture. The Grahas follow cultural boundaries. So we are clear and better off from that now. 4th lord in 8th house, has become clear?
Lordships of houses:
So, you got to know about 8th house that It is not the house of Death. 8th house is the house of longevity. Alas! It’s a great realization; better late than never. It is very important to know. It is Āyu. Then where will the native will die? Who is killing? One thing: the one very important principle in jyotiṣa is the principle of Bhavat Bhāvaṁ.
Something (bhāvaṁ) is there, and there is a support(bhavat) for it. (Bhavat Bhāvaṁ). It means I want something, and where will I get it? Where is it’s end? Which house is 8th from 8th? It is the 3rd house. These two houses are the houses of longevity. What goes around is what comes around. Right? Bhavat bhāvaṁ. It is one of the most beautiful concepts of vedic astrology. No other system of astrology has got this system of Bhavat Bhāvaṁ. No body. No one is even nearby. 4th from the 4th is the 7th house. Sukha (joy, 4th house): one whose wife is happy towards him, is the happiest person. This is fact. 7th house is 10th from the 10th. You may be the king of the heaven (10th house), but if your wife thinks you are a sweeper then you are not going to be ever satisfied with your work. 10th house is the house of success, your status, what you think. “I am the king! Big status. I have big respect”. You come home and if your wife doesn’t respect you and just gives you food in a disrespectful manner like “to a dog”, then what happened about your “social status and social respect”? In that very moment, your respect is finished and demolished. 10th house, I.e., your status and your respect and finished in a moment. Do you realize the importance of the 7th house, marriage? marriage is so crucial in life. It can.. your 10th house and your 4th house, can either be made or destroyed by the 7th house. Bhavat Bhāvaṁ. Same way, when we talk of longevity, 8th house is the house of longevity. 8th from 8th is the 3rd house, which is the controlling bhāva. 3rd house is the Mithuna bhāva, the house of sexuality. That is why the Rishis say, “if you want a long life, refrain from excessive sexuality. Too much of sexuality: you will die soon. This is like a bank balance. How much can you spend? The more your spend, the lesser it gets. So, the 8th house and the 3rd house are the houses of longevity. Which are the houses, that are the loss for these houses? Which is the house of loss? Loss is in 12th. From principle, loss is the 12th house. If anything gets depleted, it happens through 12th house from that. So, 12th from 8th is the 7th house. 12th from 3rd is the 2nd house. That is why, 2nd house and 7th house are the māraka. That is why. When somebody says 2nd and 7th is māraka, you should know why. It is māraka, because it is 12th house from the 3rd and from the 8th. we are clear on this now. So, we have clearly defined longevity, and we have clearly defined Mārakas.
Note: (from transcriber): Gurujī have mentioned it lightly but this principle is so so crucial. House and it’s support! For example, 7th from Lagna’s 7th house is the 4th house. We know that 7th house is the marriage, but you can’t sustain a marriage without a home (4th house). Similarly, 9th from 9th is the 5th house. 9th house denotes guru, temple, Tīrtha etc. So, they are closely linked with bhakti that comes from 5th house. Similarly, 5th house is 3rd from the 3rd. Guru-Upadeśa is in 3rd house, did you know that? Can it live-on without bhakti (devotion) of 5th house? Likewise, all houses are supported by another house, through Bhavat Bhāvaṁ principle. By applying this principle on every house we come to know that, 12th house, 8th house, 6th house, and 2nd house can’t become “support” for any other house. For example, we know that 2nd from 2nd house is 3rd house. But we can’t reach to 2nd house through Bhavat Bhāvaṁ. “Xth” house from “X” house is the second house. Which is the “Xth” house? No where. Similarly, you can understand the same thing about 6th house, 8th house, and 12th house. So, these four houses are called shadow houses, I.e., chāyā bhāva. One thing taught in Hindu Mythology is Śrī Śani Deva is the child of chāyā (shadow), second wife of Śūrya. So, Saturn works through shadows and is the kāraka of shadow. And thus, Saturn is kāraka for 6th house, 8th house, and 12th house. There is a slight twist in this. 2nd house is hari bhāva and is under the total control of Śrī Viṣṇu because he is the sustainer of the entire creation. The moment 2nd house gets linked with Śani, the latter become primary māraka (killer). But on the other hand, Śani being the kāraka of 6th, 8th and 12th house, is good for the native when placed in these three houses. Similary, lords of 6th, 8th, and 12th house while placed in these three houses, become Viparīta Rājayoga. But the moment, 2nd lord gets linked with this Viparīta Rājayoga, the yoga is not beneficial anymore, and instead, becomes a bad yoga. There is one more derivation from the Bhavat Bhāvaṁ. The entire concept of “āruḍha” and “Upapada” is based on Bhavat Bhāvaṁ only. For example, suppose your lagneśa (1st lord) is in 9th house, then your āruḍha Lagna will be in 9th from 9th, in 5th house from Lagna. Here, 9th house is called pāka Lagna. It’s the place where Buddhi is sitting. So, Your pāka is focused on 9th house, and on the significations of 9th house. But, your application of your intelligence in this world, is about 5th house. 5th house filters everything that you see around you in this earthly world. It gets filtered through āruḍha. And, you interaction with the world is through āruḍha, and the latter has great impact on your intelligence, on your consciousness. If āruḍha is weak, no matter how intelligent you are, still you will face difficulties because your interaction with the world is suffering. While your āruḍha works through 5th house, the sign that has become the 5th house, it’s lord, and the Graha placed in 5th house, play a crucial role in your life. Hence, this principle of Bhavat Bhāvaṁ is the cornerstone of Horā Śāstra.
Gurujī Continues: Is a planet in the 7th house is good or bad? Now I ask this question. See, I gave you a principle, and am asking a question. I want you to think and answer. He says that there should be no planet in the 7th house. Have you seen brihat Parāśara volume 2? Bṛhat Parāśara volume II; have you read it? After reading volume 2 properly, you will never answer that benefics are good in 7th house. No planet is good in 7th house. the moment it’s Daśā or Antardaśā will come, Parāśara will tell you, “ohh! Graha is sitting in 7th house? Everyday morning and evening, do 108 times Mṛtyuñjaya Mantra. Because of a placement of a planet in the 7th house, if I have to do Mṛtyuñjaya Mantra, is it good or bad? Very simple logic. When Parāśara Muni is advising you, and it is not any else, if Parāśara Muni says that any planet in 7th house, (have you seen Daśā Phala?), the moment it is in the 7th house, or is linked to the 7th house start Mṛtyuñjaya Mantra immediately. Why? Because any planet in the 7th house, or the lord of the 7th house; you have to start Mṛtyuñjaya Mantra immediately, to save yourself. So, no planet is good in the 7th house. Let’s be clear about it. Because it is māraka, the Graha will behave like a māraka for you. Whoever will sit in the 7th house will behave like māraka. If the 9th lord is in the 7th house, your father will behave like māraka. If your 2nd lord is in 7th, your family will behave like a māraka. If the 6th lord is in the 7th, your enemies and people who you think are your supporters and are working for you, will end up as māraka, the servants. Like that, any body in the 7th house will become a māraka. Who has the power to change these Mārakas favorably for you? Your wife. Fortunate is the man who has a wife like Maṇḍodarī (wife of Demon King Rāvaṇa), who will convert all the Mārakas into beneficial. Till the last, she was struggling to make all the Mārakas for the husband, favorable towards her husband. 7th house is a very important house. One favorable spouse can tilt all the Mārakas in your favor. Do you understand? Any planet in the 7th house, if you cannot the mantra, ask your wife to do the mantra. If your wife does the mantra, you will still get the result. Who can do mantra pertaining to Grahas? If you cannot, then who can? Your wife can do. Your spouse can do. So, you see that the 7th house is a very important house. you must understand 7th house. 7th house only has to do with your purity. In the Rāśi chart, not the Navāṃśa chart. We are only talking about Rāśi now. It has to do with your purity. If Jupiter is in the 7th house, you will be dedicated to one spouse. 7th house has to do with your purity. What does it have to do with your spouse. Now, you are clear about 7th and 2nd houses, and how to see planets in them. In any varga chart, similarly, see the 2nd and 7th houses from the concerned relative. Say, you are seeing Dvādaśāṃśa. We were seeing whose Dvādaśāṃśa today? Taurus is Lagna, Moon in it. Tell me all the planet:
Student: 2nd house has Rāhu and Saturn in 2nd house. 3rd house has Venus. 7th house has Jupiter. 8th house has Ketu. 9th house has Mercury. 10th house has Sun. 12th house has Maṅgala. This is D12.
Gurujī: we are doing D12, this is D12. To make you understand the importance of 2nd house, I am showing it to you people the way it works in D12. We are seeing the D12 Dvādaśāṃśa, and we want to know the parent’s health in this chart. How to know the health of the father. Make 9th house as the Lagna of the father. If the Lagna is taurus, in the Dvādaśāṃśa chart, Makara is the 9th house. Treat Makara as the Lagna of father. Write “father-Lagna” in the sign Makara. In the chart, write “father’s Lagna” in Makara Rāśi in the 9th house. And from here you study the chart: “are there any planet in the 2nd house”?
Student: Sun
Gurujī: are there any planet in the 7th house?
Student: Venus.
Gurujī: Now, Venus is in the 7th house. Venus is a māraka. If Venus decides to give disease; because it is a māraka it can give disease, it shows your weaknesses, it shows that part of your body which is weak. Which part of the body will be weak?
Which part of the body will be weak?
Student: Can it be the urinary system?
Gurujī: Yes, urinary system. Your urinary system is ruled by Venus. Because it is Jala Tattva. It is urinary system. And it also rules your reproductive system. It also rules your physical eyes. These are the three things ruled by Śukra. And, one most important thing it rules is the Pancreas (digestion of sugar). These four things are ruled by Śukra. So, if Śukra is in māraka or is in bādhaka, then surely there will be diseases in these. The disease would have started many years back when he was in Śukra Daśā. Now he is in Sūrya Daśā. How is his father’s health. Sūrya is in 2nd house from the ninth. It is māraka. Problem will surely be there. Māraka Daśā is running. So he has to do Mrityunjaya. Planet in the 2nd, planet in the 7th… what they have to do? They have to do Mrityunjaya. Am I clear on that? So, his father’s health has been bad. How will his father’s health be in Sūrya Daśā, Sūrya Antardaśā. Very bad? right! So he must do the Mṛtyuñjaya Mantra. Now, are you able to understand? Similarly, if you want to know about the mother’s health, you have to take 4th house as the Lagna (D12) and study. This is a system which has been done by the traditional astrologers throughout India. And, this is not something which I alone am telling. Dr B V Raman has been using this and he has been bangalore. So, in the Bangalore astrologers, in the lineage of Bangalore, they also use this, but not to such detail. K N Rao is also using this. If you see K N Rao’s books, he is also using the same system. I am from Odisha, and we are also using the same system. So, there is no difference in this matter. Yes, good point. Do you see? From the 4th house, where is Sun and is lord of which house? It is the Lagna lord in the 7th house. For the mother, it is the Lagna lord in the 7th house. But Sūrya is in Māraka in the 7th. So, his mother’s health is also not good.
Student: Venus is causing urinary problems etc. But can we also see the sign which is there like cancer is there. So, he might also have chest problem?
Gurujī: No. The Graha has to be there to cause the problem. If there is no Graha then there is no problem.
Student: Yes, Venus is there in Cancer.
Gurujī: Cancer: Jala Tattva. So, among the choices; we have three or four choices. What were the four choices of Venus? Number 1 reproductive, 2 was urinary fluid system. 3rd was eyes. And, 4th was pancreas. Among the four I think the Jala Tattva, I.e., the urinary one is showing better for Venus in cancer. If Venus, let’s say, was in Libra, what will you say: Reproductive. If Venus was, let’s say, in Capricorn, what will you say: Eyes. What about the lords of these houses? What do you think about the lords of the houses? They are not Mārakas? They are also Mārakas. But they will be secondary Mārakas, if there are planets there. You can clearly see that when a planet is in the 7th house, the lord of that house is not very important. When a planet is not in the 7th house, then the lord of that house becomes more important. Okay?
Now, we have understood the 7th house and the 8th house with respect to each other. What about the 6th house? How will you study 5th house and 6th house? Similarly, if 5th house is the mantra, they say the most important reason to man to live. The reason why are you alive. For waking up every morning, go to toilet, eat your breakfast, eat your lunch, eat you dinner, go to sleep… why are you living? What for are you alive? The reason for living is the 5th house I.e., Mantra. You are living because of Mantra. Otherwise, it is not worth it to live. Don’t live like an animal. You are given a human body, don’t live like an animal. You see my point? Many human beings are living like animals in this world. Although they have got human bodies. The reason to live is the 5th house. This is the house of what you love. This is the house of your children. This is the house of your mantra. This is the the future (Bhaviṣya) house. You live for a future. You live with some hopes. If you don’t have these, don’t live. Don’t live like an animal. So, the most important house in an horoscope is the 5th house. When a time comes in life, sometimes.. I wish it doesn’t come for you… Bābur had that opportunity once in his life. 5th house or Lagna, (that was the choice before him). That is the only time that the Lagna must sacrifice himself and allow the 5th house to go forward. Remember one thing, that the 5th house is more important the Lagna. When the question comes “me or my child”, then choose to give it to your kid. Emperor Bābur did the same. That’s how Humāyūn flourished. And he was able to do it because of Guru Nānak Dev. Anyway, that Is history. The point is, the 5th house is the most important house, and the Mārakas to this house has to be studied carefully. That is the most important thing is life. Which are the Mārakas to this house? 6th house and 11th house. That is why the 6th house and the 11th house are considered the real Śatru (enemy). The 6th house, and the 6th from 6th; which is the 6th from 6th? The 11th house. The 6th house and the 11th house are the real-real enemies of your horoscope. Because these two houses are the Mārakas to everything that you are living for. I hope you appreciate the “why”. Why is 6th house and 11th house so bad? Everybody used to ask. Why is the 11th house considered bad? It is the house of gain and it is such an important house; Income. So important. It is māraka to children. That is why you observe, “how you take money”, is very important. If You want to have a good future, don’t touch black money. Because that black money is māraka to your children. Do not do anything that will hit conscience. If you kill the 5th house, one day you will have to digest it. Nobody else. Only “you” will have to digest it. That is why in our Śāstra, the 11th house is considered to be a very bad house. Western astrology and we have a major contradiction/difference in this. Western astrology considers the 11th house as the most beneficial house.
They call it the best house. We say, “NO”. It is Māraka to mantra. That which is Māraka to mantra, is the WORST. Jaimini says a beautiful dictum for this, to explain. Because it looks like that In Jaimini’s time, Jaimini was not the contemporary of Parāśara. He was after Parāśara. Even after Parāśara Muni taught all this, Kaliyuga started after that. So, naturally people will have more doubts because of kaliyuga. So, people must have expressed doubts and Jaimini gave a beautiful shloka. I always keep telling this to my students. I will tell it to you today also.
Tanau Tana Daṇḍa Haraḥ.
Jaimini says this much only. Tanou means; katapayadi vargas give secret calculation behind tanau; means 6th house. And, tana is again 6th. Daṇḍa refers to first word Tanou and means that 6th house is daṇḍa I.e., punishment. And 11th is haraḥ, which will completely destroy everything that you have dreamt of. Your 5th house, is all your hopes, your aspirations, your dreams. 11th house has the potential to take away everything that Is bestowed by 6th house. So, the 6th lord, and the 11th lord, are considered the worst planets. There is no worst Graha than these two in your horoscope. Do not consider them as house of income. Do not do this blunder. We will go into 11th house in more detail also. It is the most misunderstood house because of influence of western astrology on vedic astrology. The 11th house is the house, I have consistently seen, will always give you that punishment which will completely ruin your hopes. They say that a single retrograde planet in the 11th house can destroy your hopes. A single retrograde. Why retrograde? Because retrograde planet is very planet. A retrograde planet is a very powerful planet, he has tremendous Ceṣṭā Bala. Being in the Māraka to the 5th, he will destroy the 5th house completely. Because it’s Dṛṣṭi will be on the 5th house. Sitting in the 11th house, it will have direct Dṛṣṭi on the 5th house, he will destroy the 5th house. All your plans will go for a six. All your hopes will be destroyed. All your dreams will be shattered. It is the worst house. You started with the 8th house being the worst. So, I wanted to tell you which is the worst. The worst house is the 11th. 11th is “hara”, (means to take away), it never leaves anything behind, takes away completely. It doesn’t leave any doubt, completely uproots. 6th house is punishment, daṇḍa. but it has not smashed you. It is punishing you, it is not smashing you. 6th house punishes, 11th house smashes. And, 6th house will punish you, but when? It punishes you when you have weakness. What are these weaknesses? They are called ṣaḍ-ripu, I.e., six weaknesses. They are from the 6th house. Can anybody tell me what the six weaknesses are? kāma, krodha, mada, lobha, moha, mātsarya.
Since it is so difficult. See, it is not easy to understand this philosophy. What I am trying to tell you is, we feel that now that we have understood 6 weaknesses so we can easily study it and apply ṣaḍ-ripu. It is not so easy. I am also still struggling. You see, experts are still struggling. So, let us do a small exercise. Which six Grahas will indicate the ṣaḍ-ripu. We have Navagraha / nine Grahas. Of these, which six Grahas will indicate ṣaḍ-ripus. Who is not there, tell me that first.
Student: Ketu
Gurujī: Ketu doesn’t have ṣaḍ-ripu? From where does ṣaḍ-ripu come, in the first place. Avaguṇa, from avaguṇa, ṣaḍ-ripus come. So, which are the planets that are having sattva gunas? Sun, Moon and Jupiter. Remove these from the nine Grahas. Sattva Guṇa have to be separated. So, Rajas and Tamas are both avaguṇa. Now you are left with six Grahas. Rāhu, Ketu, Śani, Maṅgala are Tamas Guṇa. And, Budha and Śukra are rajas guna. These six avaguṇa planets will give you ṣaḍ-ripus. Am I clearly understood over here? We have six planets now who will give me ṣaḍ-ripus. And who are these planets? These are the planets who are having avaguṇa. With good guna, you are not going to have ṣaḍ-ripu. We are doing an exercise now. And I am trying to approach the subject very logically. If at any point, if you feel that my logic is not solid, please stop me and clarify. Let us be clear on what we are talking about. So, avaguṇa are six and six are the avaguṇī Graha are causing ṣaḍ-ripu. Moha will come from which Graha? Which Graha will give moha? Moha; is there any Graha other than Śukra, which can give moha? Answer this. Which Graha can give moha?
Krodha is given by Maṅgala, there is no doubt in this. Let us leave Maṅgala out. What is the situation in which, person’s Buddhi is not perfectly working? In mada, Buddhi is not working properly. Buddhi gets faulty; the most headless one is Ketu. In their degree of headlessness, the most headless is Ketu. Below it, is Maṅgala. Maṅgala is not allowed to think. In the army, you are not allowed to think. If you think, you will lose your Job. Obsession to the extent that you have lost your head: that Is mada. Mada is that level of obsession, where logic fails you. Rational thinking is completely failing you. That is Ketu and that Is mada. The next: Moha. Moha is not a bad thing. But is can be a very bad thing, also. But not tāmasikaa. It is not tāmasikaa. It is more rajas. It is not something that damages others, it only damages yourself. See, Tamas and rajas avaguṇa, what Is the difference. Rajas avaguṇa is that which doesn’t speak bad about others, but speaks bad about myself. Tamas avaguṇa is that which will speak ill about myself and will speak ill about others also. are you understanding the difference.
So, now we should study Moha. When I am having Moha for somebody, that never harms that person. It only harms me. Problem is in me. That is Śukra. It can be either Śukra, or it can either be Budha. It cannot be Budha, so it has to be Śukra. So, moha has to be ruled by Śukra. So, now we know about three of them. Now, who has the biggest desire, is the one who has the biggest brain. Bigger the head, bigger the desire. This desire is the reason that you are born again and again. That is the root or rebirth. It is the biggest ṣaḍ-ripu. He is the ruler of that. Rāhu: Kāma. Desire has no end. More jñāna you get, the more will be the desire. He is the ruler of that. So, as a ṣaḍ-ripu, kāma is controlled by Rāhu. Is it bad, or is it good (I.e., kāma or desire)? Let us go into what gautam buddha tells us: “we are born because of desire. We are born because of which Graha? Rāhu. I.e., desire. Anybody having doubt should read… which avatar? Varāha Avatāra. Varāha Avatāra’s story can clarify it.
Anyway, so, we have got Rāhu very clearly now. Which two are left? Śani and Budha are left. Lobha is a very bad ṣaḍ-ripu. And, your fulfillment doesn’t come until you don’t take somebody else’s. Lobha is tāmasikaa. Śani gives Lobha. Lobha is there in the person who doesn’t have anything. If I have enough, lobha will die out. I will have lobha for the thing which I don’t currently have. What I have, I cannot be greedy for that. What I don’s have, I can be greedy for that. So, greed has to be ruled by saturn. Do you understand? Greed is a weakness which has to be ruled by saturn. What you don’t have… You are greedy for what: what you don’t have. How can you be greedy for something that you have. And what Is the indicator of not having? Saturn is the indicator of not having something.
Okay? And, finally we are left with mātsarya. And it is Mercury and I think it should be envy, isn’t it? Envy, jealous or whatever that you want to call it. English word, whatever you can try to find for it; “I envy Shah Rukh Khan”. If I am jealous of Shah Rukh Khan, what harm can it do to Shah Rukh Khan? Nothing. I keep envying. You see my point? It is ṣaḍ-ripu. But, by itself; prima facie, it doesn’t compel you to do negative. If I am jealous of somebody, I can keep being jealous for five years but after sometime, I will forget it and I will go my way. What difference does it make? How does it harm him or harm me? But yes, it harms my Buddhi.
Student: Envy does cause very negative things.
Gurujī: If Envy causes other things like Krodha or other ṣaḍ-ripu, then it causes problem. Mercury is a Graha, which goes with the Graha that he joins. Remember this. Ṣaḍ-ripu of Mercury, is not bad in itself. But it is bad, if it joins other ṣaḍ-ripus. Mercury by itself is not bad. It is good to be a bit envious. I encourage my students to a bit envious. “Oh that person has studied more than me, I will also study more”. What is bad in this? Is there something wrong if you jealous that somebody else knows a bit more of Jyotiṣa than you? It will make you study more. It is good. Good, be jealous. Be jealous if it is going to make you study. But if that Mercury, that jealousy can cause you to burn other fellow’s books, or beat him up, that Is bad. That is why they say, Mercury in itself is not bad, provided that It has not joined other malefic Grahas. Check up your own horoscopes, if Mercury is with some other planet, then this ṣaḍ-ripu can manifest through other things also. If Mercury is alone, it will not manifest to other things. You may be jealous but you will keep it inside and not show it. You will never use jealousy to trouble anybody else. It depends upon your own horoscope. So, now, that we know the six weaknesses. What do we have to do as an exercise? To study them in our own horoscopes. A person is bound to have that weakness or suffer from that weakness which is indicated by the planet in the 6th house. Which planet in the sixth house? One of the six, not Sun, not Moon, not Jupiter. Am I Clear? This 6th house principle,is a very very important principle. Then, otherwise when I start talking about Tula Lagna with Jupiter exalted in the 10th house, it is superb, you know. You will say, “what a weird man he is, 6th lord is exalted and he is saying that It is good”. You will not be able to understand it. If the 6th lord is Sūrya, Chandra or Jupiter; it’s exaltation or strength will indicate that you enemies will be vanquished. Because of your own sattva gunas. If Sūrya is strong, then the strength of your Gāyatrī Mantra, if Chandra is strong then the offerings that you have made to Śiva, and if jupiter is strong then your folded hands in front of Viṣṇu; shall cause the enemies to shiver. See, it a very important principle that I am telling you today. Because 6th house study is incomplete without this principle and you will make huge mistake without this principle. Now we have done 6th house and the lords of the 6th house.
Now, imagine the planet in the 6th house. Depending upon the planet in the 6th house, the person will suffer from such ṣaḍ-ripu coming from the enemy. If Mars is in 6th house, your enemy will be very angry with you. If Śukra is in 6th house, your real enemy will be Moha. If Budha is in 6th house, jealous enemies will trouble you for the whole time. Who is jealous? That means you are capable. Nobody is jealous of somebody who is incompetent. So, remember one thing, if Budha or Śukra is in the 6th house. It is a positive indication. I just said something weird. Try to understand. If Budha goes to 6th, that means your enemies are jealous of you. When is someone jealous of you? It means you are competent. If Mercury is in 6th house, the person is blessed that he is a very capable person; very very capable person. If he starts a work, will definitely finish it. Why? Because Mercury is Kāraka of 10th house. 6th is the house of enemy. So, your enemy will be jealous of you. You will suffer because of that jealousy. 6th house from Lagna, from Rāśi chart. Okay?
Similarly, 6th from the…. If Venus is in 6th house: moha. Many people will be attracted to you. Many people will be obsessed with you. Their obsession with you will be the major problem as far as you are concerned. Also, you must be (are) good looking. You must be (are) a real charmer. Otherwise, why will they come after you? So, people having Śukra having 6th (from Lagna in Rāśi chart); they are beautiful/charming. Now, same way, if Maṅgala is in the 6th house, your enemy is very angry with you, why is your enemy very angry with you? Because you beat him and he could not do anything. You grabbed your enemy and beat him up and broke his/her bones, so that’s why he/she is angry. So, he/she is angry. “One day I will take revenge”. That is Maṅgala in 6th house. Great generals and great warriors. Ketu in 6th house: headless, completely headless people. Similarly, you have to see what are the weaknesses that you have to encounter in life based upon the planet in the 6th house.
Now, 6th from the 6th, is your enemy’s enemy. Or it shows your own avaguṇa. See, it is something different. 6th from the 6th is your enemy’s enemy; that Is “you”. You are your enemy’s enemy. I am the enemy of my enemy. Who else can it be? So, 11th house, is your own avagunas, and that Is your Hara Sthāna. That is the reason why Śiva will throw his Triśūla at you. Otherwise why will Śivajī will hit your with Triśūla. It is because you have the avaguṇa. Śiva wants you to be perfect. Brahmā makes a sculpture, and empowers it with Gāyatrī Mantra: “sanjay, run”. Again, little mud he will take, form a sculpture, and empower it with Gāyatrī Mantra, “this is sarbani”. It takes him little time. Brahmā is making toys, he is playing. He is making toys; he has a toy factory. Human toys and animal toys; and Śiva is quality control. He says, “what non-sense have you made, it is failure”. Now, are you able to understand? In reality this is so….everyday there is mass production in the factory and mass quality control. So, 11th house is that quality-control point where your own avaguṇa are seen. So, if somebody…. 11th house will show what? Your own avaguṇa. If benefics are in the 11th house, it is good because your avagunas are less. If your avagunas are less it will not be Māraka to your children. If 11th house is having malefics, it is Māraka to the children, Māraka to the mantra. You are having your own avaguṇa. Am I being clear on this now? Now let us try and test it.
Let us say that somebody has Mercury in the 11th house. What avaguṇa that he has? Jealousy. The person himself will be jealous of others. If a person has saturn in the 11th house, what avaguṇa will be there? Lobha. Yes, I have that In the 11th house. I have lobha. I know it that I have. That is a fact. If I want, I can hide it. But the truth is, if you see the horoscope, it is there. And, the planet that Saturn will aspect, will show the reasons for my lobha. My saturn is aspecting Jupiter in Lagna. You think I have Lobha for sweets? It is aspecting 5th house Sūrya, that Is different, that Is knowledge. Jupiter is in Lagna, Lagna is health, my taste. Saturn is aspecting jupiter in Lagna, do I have Lobha for sweets? I used to be bribed with sweets. You can bribe me with sweets. That is fact, and I came to know this after I started understanding these Grahas. Oh! That’s my weakness. Until it rotten my teeth, I did not accept it as my weakness. My started started falling then I came to know that Is my weakness. When there is saturn in the 11th house, look at the things saturn is looking at.
Ketu: Ketu doesn’t have a head, if Ketu had a head then it would be a problem, so, it has no aspect. Ketu means? Mada. So, Mada is for what: the Grahas which are conjoining Ketu. If there are no planets with Ketu then look out for planets which are aspecting Ketu. If there are no planets aspecting Ketu, look at the lord of the sign. One reason, there has to be one reason. That reason will be the mada. If Ketu is with let’s say saturn, the person could be obsessed about working. Ketu is obsession, right? We use the word obsession when we talk of Ketu. Mada: the closest word in english was obsession, right? So, when we talk of Ketu, we are talking about “obsessions”. When saturn is conjoined Ketu, then you are obsessed about what? You are obsessed about work. You are workaholic. The word workaholic comes into the account. The person is workaholic: headless obsession; why are you working so much? They don’t know, but they keep working. This will increase that Ketu, Ketu will jump. If everything goes according to Ketu’s will, then he would have retrograded all planets. Jupiter is not avaguṇa.
Student: what If jupiter is retrograde in 11th house?
Gurujī: How is it avaguṇa? Saturn is avaguṇa.
Student: saturn and jupiter, both are retrograde in 11th house.
Gurujī: That Saturn is avaguṇa. jupiter is not avaguṇa.
Student: (not clearly audible)
Gurujī: That Guru will try to fight Saturn. And there is a constant fight inside that person between good and evil.
Student: If only jupiter alone in 11th?
Gurujī: It is good to have jupiter in 11th. You see the importance of the 11th house?
Student: If Venus is in 11th house?
Gurujī: That is for you to understand that Venus.
Student: Venus means moha,
Gurujī: It means your moha is there on something or somebody. See anybody having Venus in 11th house. Surely, there will be deep emotional attachment with somebody. That moha is a problem. That movie, in which Shah Rukh Khan became villain, movie is called “Darr”. That case is an 11th house Venus case. That is the only movie I saw after ages; I immediately analyzed it. It is easy to understand.
Student: What if Rāhu is in 11th?
Gurujī: Rāhu gives desire, person will keep having desire for something or the other.
Student: What if Rāhu and Śukra are both there
Gurujī: That moha will come from that desire. Moha and desire are interlinked.
Student: That is why it is said: “if Bṛhaspati or Sūrya is in 11th house from Lagna in Rāśi chart, then it finishes many avagunas (bad qualities)”.
Gurujī: That is correct. That is a dictum. Very important dictum. And Sūrya is the best, not even Bṛhaspati. That Sūrya is type of Graha, if Sūrya is in 11th Bhāva from Rāśi-Lagna, that Is beautiful. One name of Rama will wash away all the sins.
Student: actually in Jyotiṣa, Rāhu’s and Ketu’s aspect on each other is not talked about generally and is not important.
Gurujī: Actually they are together. Anyway, important issue here is something else.
Student: I have Siṃha Lagna and Sūrya is sitting in the 11th house.
Gurujī: 11th house has Sūrya: what Is better than that!
Student: It also has Venus. But, Moha is in everybody.
(everybody laughing at this point)
Gurujī: Listen! this is Sanjay-dictum that: “whatever weakness we have, we think that every human being has that weakness”.
Student: but it is more important that “what Is “that” for which he has moha”.
Gurujī: that depends upon Śukra’s Dṛṣṭi. The process that we did for Śani, like that you have to see for Śukra.
Student: he has aspect on the 5th house.
Gurujī: there will be Grahas that will be aspecting Śukra. It is rare when Śukra sits without any aspect or any yoga. Śukra is never left alone by other planets.
Student: (not clearly audible)
Gurujī: Something or the other will be keep happening with that Śukra. Like, for him. But, his Sūrya in the 11th is just BEAUTIFUL; by Rama, the name Rama. That is why they say three names: Hare Rāma Kṛṣṇa. Hare is jupiter. Rāma is jupiter. Kṛṣṇa is Moon. Hare Rama Kṛṣṇa. These three names have that strength which washes away all avaguṇa.
Student: suppose this is Venus’s compartment, that means the ṣaḍ-ripu will be there.
Gurujī: let us not go by “more or less”. If I don’t know what Is 100 rupee then how can I talk about 50 rupee. We talk of more or less when we have quantum to quantify. In Moha, how can we say more or less. Moha is Moha, there is no more or less “he has more moha than him”, will you do calculation for the quantity or Moha? How can we do this? It is not possible Don’t get into that. So, how many of you have planet in the 11th house?
(many students raise hands)
Gurujī: okay, so many of you.
Student: I have jupiter in pisces in 11th house.
Gurujī: that’s very good. Any other planet there?
Student: Ketu is there and it has aspect from Sūrya and Śani.
Gurujī: so, only two aspects? Sūrya and Śani?
Student: Chandra aspect is also on Ketu.
Gurujī: So, Sūrya aspect is good. Chandra aspect is good. Śani’s aspect is bad.
Another student: Sun and Mercury.
Gurujī: Sun and?
Student: Mercury.
Gurujī: Sun is good and Mercury is a problem. But Sun is very good.
Student: Mercury is retrograde
Gurujī: that means it is bad. You have got to be careful.
Another Student: Sir, I have a question. If someone says that “I don’t have Lobha”, it is surely a lie. Because a bit of lobha is in everybody.
Gurujī: See, every horoscope has Śani somewhere. And, in every horoscope, Śani will either have one pada or two pada or full aspect on 11th house. If you take Graha Dṛṣṭi’s by their actual calculation, some Dṛṣṭi is surely on 11th house in every chart. And, that much amount of Dṛṣṭi will correspond to that much amount of lobha.
Some student is saying: my Śani is in 5th, so, 7th aspect is on 11th.
Gurujī: See, lets not go into it. What do you get by finding faults in each other.
(everybody is laughing)
Gurujī: We all have it. Question is: has it become such a problem that Śiva has to pick up the Triśūla? It is not a problem until the Graha goes and sits in the 11th house. If that Graha goes and sits in the 11th house, it becomes a problem. If the planet is sitting over there, then it is a problem.
Student: The planetary aspect?
Gurujī: The planetary aspects are real. Because they come from planetary desire. This is how our brain works.
Student: (first sentence is not clearly audible). What about Moon
Gurujī: Big or Small malefics, is not important. Ketu is very small. It’s just a point.
Smt Sarbāṇī Rath: I have Ketu and saturn over there.
Gurujī: Ketu and saturn means what? Lobha? You have everything in life, what lobha do you have?
Student: (not clearly audible)
Gurujī: That is a good part of it. Jupiter’s aspect is a good part of it. See, you can clearly see and now you can easily understand.
(note from Transcriber of this document): This clearly depicts that Jupiter’s aspect on 11th house is good because that might decrease you ṣaḍ-ripu, and help you fight it. Reason is simple, Jupiter is devaguru and is the natural significator of 11th house, is also the most sattvik among the three. So, Jupiter’s aspect on 11th house is very good.
Student: (not clearly audible)
Gurujī: yes, it has negative effects also, definitely.
Another student: I have Jupiter in 11th house, with Venus in the Lagna, both having exchange. What does it mean?
Gurujī: It means that there is ṣaḍ-ripu. But because of this exchange, after sometime, you will get over it completely. This problem will be there up to a certain age. Suppose, 26 is the age up to which this Venus is a problem. Then after 26 and up to 30, this person will change completely. This is what It means. See, all of us should understand that these avaguṇa stay there up to a certain age and with time, they vanish with time. Only Lobha is the one that stays there till the end, but all others vanish with time.
Let’s talk about houses now. First be clear about houses before we talk about anything else.
Student : Suppose, in a taurus Lagna, if Venus and Moon are in the 11th house. Then:
Gurujī: That Moon is very good but that Venus is Venus. It doesn’t matter if it’s exalted. By being exalted Venus is not going to become Sūrya.
Student: Instead, it has become stronger.
Gurujī: The strength is much more higher, it is not that It has become pure. I means he has become stronger. On the other hand, I would prefer that Sūrya goes to some other house like 3rd house and all that, instead of going to 11th house. Anyway, are you people getting some clarity about 11th house?
Student: what If there is no planet in 11th house?
Gurujī: If there is no Graha in the 11th house, then there is not much problem. Like we were talking about visti etc, like he was saying that every person has Lobha. Every horoscope has Śani somewhere and has some portion of the Dṛṣṭi on the 11th house. Whether it is small or big, like one pada two pada, etc, some portion of the Dṛṣṭi will definitely be there and that much Lobha will definitely be there. But it is not a problem for that person. it become a problem when Graha goes and sits there and sits there with strength. Then it becomes a problem. The avaguṇa that does not harm others, is not so bad. but the moment you start hurting others due to your avaguṇa, it becomes a problem.
Student: When it comes in the form of disease, then?
Gurujī: Disease does not come from the 11th house. 11th house does not give diseases, it comes from 6th house, 8th house and 12th house. Okay? clear! Now we are clear up to a large extent about 6th house, 11th house, 7th house and 8th house. So, four houses we have covered.
Which is the prime house of spirituality? Mokṣa is in 12th house, so, 12th house is the house of spirituality? What is spirituality? Let’s start with the definition. What is the meaning of the word spiritual? That is pertaining to the word “spirit”: Ātma.
Student: going towards God or…
Gurujī: That is religiosity. Religiosity is different from spirituality. See, in english, especially in India, we mix the meanings. A person may be spiritual and a spiritualist. A spiritualist is a person who believes in the existence of a spirit. That Ātma exists. Many people don’t believe in Ātma. They are non-spiritualist. So, spiritualist are the people who primarily, believe in the existence of a spirit which is independent from the body and the mind. They are called spiritualist. And, the study of the spirit or the purpose of the existence of the spirit in any form, is called spirituality. So, spirituality refers to, according to our definition, to Ātma. Ātma and Ātma related Vidyā is called spirituality. Ātma Jñāna is called spirituality. So, Ātma jñāna, the Kāraka of Ātma is Sūrya. Ātma Bhāva is Lagna. So, Ātma Vidyā is the Vidyā related to Lagna. Sūrya is Kāraka of Lagna and spirituality has to do with Lagna. Right? It has to do with the creation of the being. So, that Is how we talk of three houses of longevity: Lagna, 10th house and the 8th house. 10th house is karma. Every Ātma come to Loka for taking birth because of karma. See, 10th house has come. Ātma is independent and comes down to this Loka and takes birth because of karma. And the bad karma called Dṛḍha Karma, indicated by 8th house, is experience life here in this Loka. Three houses are involved with spirituality, the first house, the tenth house and the eighth house. I have made the definition very clear. I have made the houses involved, very clear. What is involved, is also very clear. Lagna is the spirit itself. 8th house is the dridha karma, which even God could not forgive and because of that you had to come to this Loka to take birth, or the Nija Doṣa, the 8th house. And the 10th house depicts the karma that you will do in this life. So, 1st, 8th and 10th are the houses of spirituality.
Now, Religiosity! Which are the houses of religiosity? What is religiosity? Religiosity is called Dharma, Dharma Mārga. Religion is related to a social way of life. It is meant for society. It is not for one single person, it is meant for society. Dharma is never for a single person. Originally Dharma is for entire world, is called Sanātana Dharma. It’s first priority is not you, but is that which is good for the entire universe. Then, which is good for the world. Then which is good for India, then you come or your family. You come last. In spirituality, you are first. In Dharma, you are last. Can you see the difference between the two? Understand the difference between these two. In spirituality, you are everything. Ātma Jñāna, which means “I, what am I, or who am I”; self realization. Whereas in Dharma, in religiosity, you are last, and you are least important. There is a very big difference between the two and the approach to knowledge, and approach to God. In that, 9th house becomes the focus, 9th house is the definition of Dharma. Which rule, what foundation, what hypothesis defines your Dharma? What is the hypothesis by which your Dharma is made? That is called higher learning. The higher the learning that Is present in the religion, that much higher will be it’s philosophy.
Audio: 1:13:17
That’s why 9th house. The highest philosophy comes from which house? From the 9th house. So, the higher….. and philosophy will come from where? from Buddhi. When you apply your mind then only you will come up with a philosophy. So, the 9th house is the house of higher learning, it is the house of philosophies. It is where, the highest philosophy which defines God. What is God? Ātma Jñāna has nothing to do with God. Ātma Jñāna has to do with me. Whereas Dharma has to do with the definition of God. That is the 9th house. The significator for the 9th house is Jupiter. There, it was Sun, now we are talking about Jupiter. There, we talk of practices. Which? Daily practices, way of life. The idea is always is to put you into habit, where you are able to improve better: 5th and 9th houses.
You observe. Which two houses are Trikoṇa? Which are the two Trikoṇa houses? 5th house and the 9th house. Who is the significator of both these houses?
Student: Jupiter.
Gurujī: that Is why Jupiter is the greatest benefic. Why is Jupiter such a great big benefic? Because he is Kāraka for 5th house, and he is Kāraka for the 9th house. Both prime houses. These 5th house and the 9th house has to do with religiosity. Your mantra: your mantra will depend upon your religion. If I do Jai Śrī Rāma, I am a Hindu who believes in Ram. If I do Ave Maria, I am Christian who believes in mother Marie. Your mantra is 9th from the 9th, it is dependent on your Dharma. Am I clear? What else is important in Dharma other than the 9th house which is called establishment. So, what Is the 9th house?
Student: temple.
Gurujī: So, 9th house is the temple. Temple is not the bricks, temple is not the temple which you see over there in the photographs. Some say it’s a temple because I can see a red flag over the top. If we put similar flag on top of our house, will it be a temple? No. What is the difference between the two. Temple has the Devatā, Jagannath is there. But if we have jagannath in our house, will it become a temple? What is the difference between the temple and my house?
Student: because we worship in the temple.
Gurujī: Pūjā is also done in house. Does that make it a temple? For example, you can worship Bhagavān in my home, but that will not make it a temple.
Student: where Dharma is followed, that Is a Mandir.
Gurujī: So, wherever Dharma is followed, that Is a Mandir? What is a Mandir?
Gurujī: See, I am going to ask you such difficult questions. You have to clarify. (Assume that) I don’t understand. You know! I must understand.
Student: Prāṇa Pratiṣṭhā. It is established in temple.
Gurujī: What is stopping you from establishing it here? Have you heard of something called Bimba? It Jyotiṣa, when you do prashna, it is very important to see Bimba. Bimba is the establishment of a deity by the pran patishtha. And, the maintenance of sanctifying rights associated with that deity. In a temple, if a snake goes and touches the idol, or if it even touches the shiv linga, it becomes impure. It is then washed, bathed, so many rituals are there to sanctify. Difference between this house and the temple is purity, purity on the basis of the definition of the religion. So, every Dharma has a principles or sanctifying body of knowledge. That is religion. That is the 9th house. So, when you say that something is a temple, it must fulfill all the obligations required for it to be a temple. There must be a body of knowledge associated with it. If that knowledge is not there, and foolish pandit are sitting there and if they don’t even know the mantras. What is the difference between jagannath temple or a temple out here? This is the difference, when you go to jagannath in Puri, you will find mukti mandap, and you will find there brahmanas from 16 villages of Sasan. Are there any questions on Philosophy, go down there and go debate with them. They are open to debate. Do you understand? That is why that Is a temple like that and that Is 9th house. that Is the knowledge and that Is the repository of knowledge. So, what are the conditions? There must be knowledge, and every religion must have a body of knowledge. What they call the holy book. So, Dharma is definied by a book. If there is no book, there is no Dharma. Do the Christians have a book? What is their book?
Students: Bible.
Gurujī: very good. So, they have a book. Do the muslims have a book?
Student: Quran.
Gurujī: Do the Hindus have a book?
Student: Gita, Upanishads, Veda, Brahamanas.
Gurujī: Too many books! Good. What is wrong with it? Our definition is to have knowledge, more the knowledge, all the more better. Why do we need a little pocket book? The bigger we have the more knowledge we will have. The bigger the body of knowledge, more will be the philosophies in it. And, that Is what defines religion better. Bigger is your word.
Is the 9th house clear? Now, 5th house: Mantra. Tell me one more house that Is very important for religion. 11th house, 10th house and 8th house was group that we have already covered. Tell me a house apart from these.
Student: 12th house is for meditation.
Gurujī: Meditation? What does it have to do with temple? It doesn’t have to do with religion, or does it have to do with religion?
Student: (unclear audio)
Gurujī: Anybody wants to say anything else pertaining to this? Priest will be seen from which house?
Student: 9th house.
Gurujī: Because it sits inside the temple?
Student: 3rd house has to do with guru’s mantra
Gurujī: that Is a separate thing. So, 1st, 8th and 10th is spirituality Ātma jñāna. 9th, and 5th are for religion. One more house has to do with Dharma. One more house has to do with Dharma. Tell me which house.
Gopal (student): 7th house.
Gurujī: Who said 7th? Gopal, why did you say “7th”? In your mind, only 7th house is there, “when will I get married”. (everybody laughing). You say 7th house in everything.
Gopal: Dharma & marriage are closely interlinked.
Gurujī: Very good point. I wanted to hear that from you. Dharma defines marriage. The biggest function of Dharma, is marriage. There is no more function bigger than that. How hindus will get marriage, how christians will get married, how muslims will get married and with how many, number this, that, everything is definied purely by Dharma. Vivaha is fruit of Dharma. So, Dharma is 9th house, mantra is 5th house, and vivaha is 7th house. 7th house also has to do with social interaction. When two people of different religion, meet each other, the way they interact with each other and behave with each other is seen from 7th house. For example, we do namaste. Who told me to do namaste, why did not I salute? Hindu Dharma says that “do namaste”, so we do namaste. So, behaviour is from 7th house. So, 7th, 9th and 5th are the three crucial houses from where we shall study the Dharma. Okay? So, 1st, 10th and 8th is Ātma jñāna. Then, 5th, 7th and 9th is Dharma. Right?
What else is there to all this. Is there anything else left? What about Mokṣa? 4th, 8thand 12th. but 8th is already finished. 8th is done. 4th and 12th, and what else? What other house? Which house is very important for Mokṣa?
Student: 4th, 7th, 12th…
Gurujī: 12th is the very important house for Mokṣa. 12th is the house of Mokṣa. What about 4th? The kendra that Is very important for Mokṣa, and especially for you is 4th house. What is your attitude towards Mokṣa if you think from the 4th house. Right? So, 4th house is very important since 4th house is the Gati. 4th house is the Gati. Who will give you Gati? Other than Mother, who will give you Gati. So, gati comes from 4th house and the place of Mokṣa is the 12th house. In between two, what Is left. Starting from when adi shankara took permission from mother, and then when he finally left sansara for mukti, what was left between these two? What was so important that was left out to be done?
Student: guru diksha
Gurujī: guru diksha. 3rd house.
Smt Sarbāṇī Rath: Is the Mokṣa related to the Ātma jñāna? So that you get Ātma jñāna…
Gurujī: Are you trying to tell me that somebody who does not have Ātma jñāna will not get Mokṣa?
Smt sarbani Rath: No. No.
Gurujī: then? finished! Someone will say, “how can you get Mokṣa by Dharma”? Why not! Indra was a pig and when he died he became Indra again. Right or wrong? Indra was a Pig. So, when he died he got Mokṣa, because he …. So, Mokṣa doesn’t depend on Dharma nor does it depend on Ātma jñāna. If God decides to give me Mokṣa right now, can you tell me, which priest can stop me? No priest can stop me, none of the spiritualist can stop me, nothing can stop me. Finished. I will get it. It has to do with my 4th house and my 12th house. 3rd house is called the house of guru-diksha, or guru-upadesha. Upadesha is the advice because of which I am progressing towards Mokṣa.
Student: doesn’t Guru-diksha come under dharma?
Gurujī: No. Guru Diksha is not compulsory.
Same Student asks again: because every religion has it’s own method of giving guru-diksha.
Gurujī: But one can go to take guru-diksha from other religion also. A christian can come to me and can go to Ramakrishna Mission. Let’s say somebody is a christian. Does it stop him/her to take diksha, let’s say, from diksha-guru for taking a diksha for a path to Mokṣa?
Same Student: It can. Because there are some very rigid rules in certain places they don’t give that to outsiders.
Gurujī: they have made a …. see, that Is called the politics of Dharma. That will go on in this world. We have to accept it. We are living with it. Politics of Dharma: isn’t it there? If somebody has power, he will certainly use it. If I don’t then what Is the use of power for that person? Does it make it necessary that all those elaborate rituals you have, are they necessary for diksha? No. Diksha is that which is told from the mouth of the guru and shishya listens, that’s all. Right?
Student: It we see 11th house from 9th house,
Gurujī: When we say guru diksha. See, the thing about guru-diksha. Is it possible that somebody get diksha in svapna?
Student: yes
Gurujī: Then what happened to all the rituals?
Student: In fact, it doesn’t even have to be spoken.
Gurujī: Right. In the…
Same student: Drig diksha is there.
Gurujī: Drig diksha is there. What kind of diksha did vyasa’s son get? Ohh ho.. I am so bad with names. The son of vyasa who did not use to wear clothes.
Student: Shuka deva.
Gurujī: Yes, Shuka deva. He got diksha of the mantra, “Hare Rāma Kṛṣṇa”. How did he get diksha? He went… He went to Raja Janak for Guru Diksha, I.e., Sita’s father. He has taken diksha from there. Then? One day, he went and got diksha in a moment. How did this happen? So, diksha is a very peculiar thing. Diksha is very clean. There are types. Thakur (Thakur Ramakrishna) just touched, he (Swami Vivekananda) saw Kali and got the diksha. From the religious view-point, it is very important to touch by leg. From the ritualistic part.. see.. From religious viewpoint, in diksha… see… Dharma is a different from mukti. Right? When you are getting diksha for mukti, then the person who is giving it, he is at that level, he knows “you yourself are at that level”. These people doesn’t roam around in our level. Right! So, they can give sparsh diksha, drig diksha, or svapna diksha, neither you nor me can say anything. As far as we are concerned, the level that we all are at, charana-diksha is appropriate for us. If we stay there (at charana) then our ego will be under control. This is only practical thing I am telling you in this world. So, as far as we people are concerned le us not get into the idea of having special dikshas.
Student: about charan diksha, when Viṣṇu ji put his foot on head of Bali..
Gurujī: So, Bali was asura, in whom, some good qualities had come. Like that, we are asura but because of benevolence of Bhagavān we can also have some good qualities and because of that we can have charana of Bhagavān. That is the reason. We are all rakshas, frankly we are. The kind of karma we are doing.. are we not or are we? or maybe we are a step ahead of the rakshas. We are better off, definitely we are better off. We are doing Jyotiṣa, we believe in Bhagavān. We do mantras. We are definitely closer for sure. But, if we have to take diksha, it should be like Bali took at the feet of Viṣṇu. Charana of Bhagavān, is the right place for us. That is correct. So, that Is Dharma-related. So, 4th, 12th and 3rd house are done. Which houses are left? Which are the houses which have got left behind from the spirituality point of view?
Student: 2nd, 6th and 11th house.
Gurujī: 6th and 11th is strictly outside spirituality. Always remember this. That’s why there are special dictums, that 6th lord especially, if that goes into 5th house, that destroys the mantra. If that goes to 9th house, if destroys your “worship”. In whatever house that goes, that part of your spirituality is destroyed. This is sure. This is the specialty about 6th lord. 2nd house is your wealth. 2nd and 11th are truly associated with money matters. 11th is your own weakness. 6th is your enemy’s weakness. And 2nd is your sustenance. Okay, this topic of spirituality had been very interesting.
Student: ( not clearly audible)
Gurujī: No. That we will do when we do yoga. What was the other topic that was to covered for today?
Student: 7th house,
Gurujī: Yes, marriage. Every time, this topic of marriage is getting delayed. Okay, 7th house and marriage. We have did 7th house in navamsa, and I remember that we did which are the calculations of marriages, and the breakage of the marriages. In marriage, the most important factor of marriage is Upapada. the most important. Ārūḍha padas: when we do Ārūḍha padas, the most important factor of marriage, is Upapada. Upa means subordinate, below, behind; who is behind the Lagna? 12th house. So, the pada of the 12th house, is called Upapada. Many people try to do all kinds of interpretations, that “no, it is the 2nd house that follows the first house”. Forget it. 12th house, and Ārūḍha pada of the 12th house, is Upapada. No ambiguity. be very clear on that. Now, the calculation of the Ārūḍha pada is done like this. Ārūḍha is defined as the reflection of a house “about” it’s lord. Do you understand the word, “reflection” used here? Reflection here, means like a mirror. If we put a mirror here, then we can see for example Ajay’s reflection (student) in that mirror. Why? Because the light that coming from Ajay, will fall on that mirror and then it will come to me. So, the path that Is travels there, and the angle that It covers there, that much it will cover, to come to Ārūḍha. That angle we decide, and we calculate the number of houses crossed by the lord of that house, and then calculate the same number of houses from the lord of that house. Suppose, Lagneśa is in second house. Then we count: Lagna is one, second house is 2. Then we count two houses from second house. Second house is 1, and third house is 2. So, the Ārūḍha Lagna is on third house. Suppose, the Lagneśa is in third house. Then you have Lagna as 1, second house as 2, and third house as 3. Now, you have to count 3 houses from third house. Third house is 1, fourth house is 2, and fifth house is 3. So, the Ārūḍha Lagna is in 5th house. It’s a simple system. It’s a very very simple system and very straight system. It has two special conditions. Some people believe that these conditions are not valid. But the Parāśara that we have read, the Parāśara that Sathanam ji talks about, and afterwards, what we have seen sharma’s version. Jaimini sutras, that we have studied. There is no difference of opinion in this.
But some people still doubt. But Ārūḍha cannot be in 1st or 7th house. If the Ārūḍha comes in these two houses, then count 10 places from the house that It has come in. If the Ārūḍha comes in the first house or the 7th house. Then, it is not allowed to stay there. it is unstable. It will go away to the 10th house from that. It is not that It will not come over there. It WILL come over there. But, it WILL NOT BE stable over there. It will go away to the 10th house from there. It is a simple calculation. Let us say that the Lagna lord is in the 4th house, so, count 4 from the Lagna. Lagna 1, second house 2, third house 3, and fourth house 4. Similarly count 4 houses from 4th house. Fourth house 1, fifth house 2, sixth house 3, seventh house 4. So, it came to the seventh house. Right? So, it has come to the seventh house, but it is not going to be stable over there. It will go running away from there. To where it will go? Tenth from the seventh which, is the fourth house. So, the Ārūḍha will be in the fourth house. Let us do the Ārūḍha for all the houses. Ārūḍha shows where something tangible is manifesting. Where it will show up? How it will show up! What is vivaha if wife is not there. If you are not able to see your spouse, she does not have a physical body, so, are you just married to a ghost? What are you married to? She must have a body, or he must have a body. That must be our focus. That, tangible object whom you call your husband or your wife, is, truly speaking, is nothing but a piece of mud. Don’t get angry with me, that I am calling your huaband or wife “a piece of mud”. But, what I am speaking is the truth. Your husband or your wife is a piece of mud into which Brahmā Ji has put the Gāyatrī Mantra. Is it not Mud? They have a body. Right? How do you recognize your husband or your wife? Can you recognize your husband or your wife, other than by seeing a person’s face or body? How do you recognize your husband or your wife? What is the way? How do you recognize that, this is my wife or this person is my husband? Through the body! And, that body comes from where? That body comes from the Upapada. The body of the spouse, will manifest from the Upapada. That is an Ārūḍha. That is part of “maya”. And, is an untruth. That’s not permanent, it will go one day. Whether you like it or not, it will go one day. That body can’t live forever. Similarly, your own body will not live forever. What will live, is your Lagna, your “satya”, your fame. That’s why Lagna is the house of fame. Your fame whether it is good fame or bad fame, is the stay after your die. Nothing stays. All of these arudhas will go. All are made from mud and dissolve back into mud. All arudhas are nothing but mud. There is no life in an Ārūḍha. Sanjay Rath is not famous, but Sanjay’s vichaar (views, words, quotes, thoughts) etc., could be famous. Do you understand? This body cannot be famous. Body will die one day, that Is the Ārūḍha. What is Ārūḍha. Ārūḍha is a body of mud. Upapada is the body of the spouse. From where that body has come? Is it born with a silver spoon or is it born in an ordinary household? What differentiates and causes this difference? This is about “bhoga”. This is the difference. Born in a rich family, will have high amount of bhoga, and if born in a poor family, will have lack of things, and will have low bhoga.
So, if the lord of the Upapada is exalted, native is born in a well off family. And if the lord of Upapada is debilitated, that means that the native is born in a poor family. So, what Is your spouse? how will you know that this person is your wife or a husband? Name: the name of a person is not associated with Lagna. The name of a person is associated with the Ārūḍha only. Because that name, the person will carry so long as the body lives. After the body dies, he will have to leave that name and go looking for another name in another body. So hat name is associated between the Ārūḍha, but is also famous. It has truth associated to it also. You did good or bad, and the fame you will get, is associated with your Lagna. And, the fame is associated with your name, so, name is a very peculiar thing. It is linking the Ārūḍha and Lagna. It’s a bit advanced concept, but it is worth thinking. Think a bit on naam tattva. Name links the two.
Upapada: so we do like this, to calculate the Ārūḍha of the 12th house. And from the Ārūḍha of the 12th house, we get to know what Is the Ārūḍha of the spouse, provided you are choosing the Lagna. If you are not choosing the Lagna, somebody else is choosing the Lagna, then their Upapada and your Upapada will match. That is called arranged marriage. This will be my wife, or that will be my wife, you don’t have to think like that because your father or your mother has decided your husband or wife. In the case of arranged marriages, or in the case of kidnapping marriages; you know about kidnapping-marriages? Rakshasa vivaha. You want to know about rakshasa vivaha? In rakshasa vivaha, the wife is kidnapped by the husband. Rakshasa vivaha happens when the girl is kidnapped. rakshasa does not mean the demon, rakshasa means comes the word rakshaa. So, the word Rakshaa, seeing who you want to ensure your security. Alright? There are different types of marriages. Have you read about this?
Student: eight types
Gurujī: Eight types, right? Ashta Maṅgala. There are eight types of Maṅgala, what else!
Student:
Gurujī: clearly. It an indian philosophy, you should know yar. Kidnapping marriage, then? What is Gandharva vivaha? These days it is happening more. Love marriage is gandharva vivaha. And? Court marriage, what does it mean? Means somebody owes you some money and if he/she cannot pay it back, so you get married? What is court marriage in the context of ashta Maṅgala?
Student: there are eighth types of marriages and 12 types of offspring. So, I will make the list and give it to you.
Gurujī: This is a good exercise. See, we should know philosophy, we should know how beautifully the indian philosophy has defined the types of marriages. Marriage is actually a wrong word, Vivaha is correct. Vivaha. The types of vivaha. “Marriage” is one type. Types of vivahas, how the Indian system has defined it. beautifully it has done it. And, also the types of children, the marriage. If the person is not able to get married! Why is he not able to get married? Because you are not able to see his wife. The body of the husband or the…. this person is my husband” or “this person is my wife”…. that native is not able to see that. As soon as the native sees the physical body, he will get to know who is his wife or her husband. (the physical presence). Do you realise? Two people are not able to see each other for twenty odd years. And suddenly after that, they see each other and they spend the remaining part of the forty years, together. Isn’t it amazing? Think for a second, isn’t it amazing? On one hand, you don’t get to know a person for 24 years, 25 years; suddenly they meet and spend the remaining part of the life together. Together, every moment! So what exactly is happening? Upapada! 12th house!
12th house: we talk of Mokṣa also. Please! It is very important.12th house: we talked of Mokṣa. 12th house: we talked of bandhan. What is the greater bandhan than marriage? You are tied so tightly in vivaha, that you can’t even move somewhere. It is fact. That is a great bandhan. And, there is no better path to Mokṣa than vivaha. There is no better path than vivaha, for Mokṣa. There is a reason for this. All the rishis were married, most of them were. Weren’t they?
Student: All the rishis were married? (shocked)
Gurujī: Okay! Tell me one of the great rishis, who were not married. when people show faces like they are doubting, what I said… So, I must clear the doubt. They think that marriage is bad because there is a trend/dRama these days. It has become a dRama these days, to shave off their head, put a choti around, and stay brahmachari for the rest of their life. This is the latest trend. There is no better path to Mokṣa, than vivaha. Because the Upapada also come from the 12th house, and Mokṣa is in the 12th house. Are you understanding? There is a combination between the two. Tell me the name of the rishi who was not married. Parāśara Ji, do you think he was not married? If he was not married, from where do you think did vyasa dev come? And the parasara’s father must be married also? His grandfather was vasishta, so, the great vasishta was also married. Atri Muni, how about Atri Muni himself? Anusuyaa. Do you know his wife’s name? The great Anusuya? There can be none purer than her. Anusuyaa’s name… it is said that If any woman chants the name “Anusuya” 108 times, all the troubles vanish at that very moment. Sita, if anyone she worshipped, it was Anusuya. Did you know that? Anusuya has knew what was going to happen to happen in Sita’s life, and gave her that aabhushana, that “as long as these are on your body, your purity will be intact, I give you this boon”. So, who protects marriages? Wives of rishis, and of these, Anusuya is highest, is the wife of Atri. She is the most worshippable one. What is the need to worship Mahadevis, when you can what you want by worshipping Anusuya. The value of Anusuya is very important. That is why I tell you that you must study our texts carefully. Who was not married, tell me the rishi was not married. Vishwamitra, they say was not married, was he married or was he not married? Then whose daughter is shakuntalaa? Whose daughter is shankuntalaa? From where did Shankuntalaa come?
Student: (unclear)
Gurujī: So, vishwamitra was married. It was one of the eighth methods, that Is a different thing. Ashta Mangalm. What is right, what Is wrong, I won’t decide. Ashta Mangalm is there in the shashtras. So, my dear friends, please realize an important thing.
Student: There are eighth rishis, who did not marry. The one oldest among these eighth, is Lomash Rishi. After that, Narada was also unmarried. After Narada, Shukadev ji is there…but there is a controversy (confusion) regarding shukadev ji. It is said that he stayed brahmachari even after marriage and having kids. Then there is markandeya rishi. And likewise, there are eighth rishis who were not marriage.
Gurvī Sarbani Ji: Narada was a Deva-rishi.
Same Student Again: Yes, narada was deva-rishi. And then there was a Brahmarishi. Who was brahmarishi!
Gurujī: Sanatkumar
Same student: Sanatkumar was a kid only, and he always remained a kid. He is not a rishi. He is above rishis. he is a Rupa of knowledge itself. We don’t call him a rishi.
Gurujī: No, I think he was married. Pulastya was definitely married.
Same student: He was maternal grandfather of Rāvaṇa.
Gurujī: Pulastya and Kashyapa..
Same Student: Kashyapa was married. there is no debate on that.
Gurujī: Anyway. The conception that you need to have brahmacharya to get Mokṣa, is absolutely wrong. Brahmacharya is a choice, of a certain path. That is all. It has nothing to do with, “whether you will be granted Mokṣa, or you will not be granted Mokṣa”. It is for God to decide, and no human being can decide that. If you are given this body then you are supposed to get married and you are supposed to produce children for the continuity of the world. But the thing is that you should get…the requirement of our Śāstra was that you should not have ..the physical union was for the purpose of begetting children. And like this, many such conditions were given… thats a different issue.
Upapada will decide the body of the spouse. When a man wants to marry, what Is he praying for? Is he praying for a Goddess to come into his life? Nobody wants to marry a .. what was Rāvaṇa’s sister’s name? Shurpanakha. Nobody wants to marry her. right? Everybody wants marry a Goddess. Is it not? So, if you want a Goddess then you might even pray to a Goddess to come. How do you pray to a Goddess to come? You see what Is in the Upapada, that has caused the problem. That has caused the problem. that the marriage is not happening. That the person is not appearing in front of you. 7th house has nothing to do with it. The problem is with the Upapada. 7th house is your wife or your husband. That person is somewhere else doing some engineering or some college or some work or something. You don’t know about it. Because the person is not in front of you. Is somewhere else, doing something else. You are worshipping 7th house, why? You won’t get anything from that. Upapada should be worshipped so that you get to meet the person. How to do it? All the Graha are having adhi-Devatā and the pratyadhi Devatā. Worship the adhi-Devatā of the planet, who is the lord of the Upapada. Provided, no planet is in Upapada. If a planet is in Upapada, then that avatar of that lord, adhi-Devatā will indicate a particular Deity. Based on that planet there or a particular avatar of that. Immediately, marriage will take place. The best time to marry, is when Jupiter has some Rāśi Dṛṣṭi on the 2nd from Upapada. If he does, it is good for vivaha. If not, then it must have some connection with that 2nd lord in some form or manner. So that the blessing of the guru will come on the long marriage. So, if the blessing is not there, it is not there. Then you may stay married, then you will be separated and there will be lots of separative influence will be going on in the marriage. Because Jupiter is akash tattva. It is this akash tattva, which brings people together. Because two human beings, now, have to come and live together. How will they come and live together, for a long time if that magnetic force of that Jupiter is missing? So, Jupiter in Gochara, should have a Dṛṣṭi on the 2nd from Upapada, or with the lord of 2nd from Upapada, so that marriage will be there and there will be more attraction between the couple. Is it clear?
Let’s say somebody’s Upapada in one case, one girl was having Upapada in gemini, mithun Rāśi. No planet was there in gemini. Some malefic aspects are coming on that. What do you think I advise the girl to do and worship, so that she will get married. Why I say Viṣṇu? (a student) said “Viṣṇu”, which is the correct answer. Why? Adhi-Devatā of Mercury is Viṣṇu. Correct. I did not tell her Kṛṣṇa or Rama, no modification. I did not modify the rule. If there is no planet in that. So, there is no avatar. If a grah is there, then I will talk of an avatar or a form or this or that. There is no this thing….so I take just the….
So, Upapada is Viṣṇu. What else? How to worship Viṣṇu? Viṣṇu can be worshipped on dwadashi, are you aware of it? A tithi which is ruled by Mercury. Or Viṣṇu can be worshipped on thursdays. But then that Viṣṇu who is worshipped on thursdays is because he is the lord of akasa tattva. Jupiter rules akasa tattva. That form..see.. What are asking when you worship Viṣṇu? If you worship Viṣṇu on thursdays, you are worshipping Viṣṇu as the lord of akasa tattva. Akasa tattva’s lord is Jupiter. So, Jupiter is powerful on thursdays. So, akasa tattva is strengthened by worshipping Viṣṇu Bhagavān on thursdays. That is different. The effect of that Is different from a dwadashi vrata of Jupiter, of Viṣṇu, which is very different from a wednesday fasting/vrata of Viṣṇu. Question is, what do we want. We want that the spouse appears in front of the native, that the native meets the spouse. So, we have to take the day lord, not the tithi lord, not the tattva lord, but the day lord. Because Vara rules physical body. Vara: panchanga, do you remember panchanga? Panchanga classes? Just buy that book this time. Buy that book and read it. So, vara is body. Alright? That’s why doing vrata on budhvar from Sūrya udaya to Sūrya asta, and worshipping Viṣṇu Bhagavān; although it was an impossible thing, it happened. Her mother herself told me, “Sanjay, it will not happen, who will marry her? She had given up and her mother had given up. Poor thing, you know! I was feeling so bad for her. But see the sincerity of that girl, she kept the fast. I told her, “one year you keep it, and you’ll see how it will happen”. So, you can see from here. So, like this.
All these arudhas are nothing but “physically manifested people”. I’m telling you. You can do many things if you understand the Arudhas. Because all human beings will come through a body. And that which is coming through body… Ok. See this, this a case. Mithuna Lagna, 12th house is taurus, Venus is in 5th house in Tula. So, where is Upapada?
Student: 9th house.
Gurujī: How does the Upapada goes to 9th house?
Students: 10th house.
Gurujī: 10th house! good one. 10th house is pisces, so, Upapada is in Mīna Rāśi. Right? Were you able to do it? Draw the chart. Draw the chart and do it. Those of you who can’t do it, please draw the chart. Gemini Lagna, put Venus in the 5th house, calculate the Upapada, you will get it in pisces. Pisces has got Moon and Ketu. First thing, is this marriage delayed or denied or what Is the problem in the marriage? How old is this person? About 27 years! Okay! Jupiter is in Lagna in gemini. Anything else you want to ask? You don’t need more to give me an answer for what this person has to be told to do. What is the remedy?
Gurvī Sarbāṇī Ji: Moon and Ketu. So, the avatar of Moon and Ketu.
Gurujī: the avatar is of Moon and Ketu? What is the avatar of Moon and Ketu?
Student: (unclear)
Gurujī: So she would have two marriages with the same person?
Student: No, it will be one.
Gurujī Right! So be very careful. You want? You don’t want to have five marriages simultaneously like Draupadi. Right? So, if two planets are in Upapada, that means there is a battle between two planets. Now, these two planets are friendly or inimical? Are they friendly or are they inimical? Moon and Ketu, they are inimical. So, that means there is a battle in the Upapada, is it good or is it bad?
Student: Bad
Gurujī: A battle in the Upapada will spoil marriage or delay marriage? It will delay. Should I marriage this or marriage that, like this and not like that, all this confusion. There is a battle and there is a battle in your head. It will manifest in your own head. So, when you are having planets of opposite propensities, sitting in the Upapada, they are bound to cause problems. Ketu says “no, pick up a more spiritual person”. Moon says “no, pick up a more social person”; “family’s decision is very important”; “family doesn’t like this person”. Moon is family.
Student: Particularly, mother.
Gurujī: Yes, particularly, mother… by Graha Dṛṣṭi. Actually it will be better if it goes to scorpio.
Student: (unclear).
Gurujī: So, tell me what you will advise her. You ought to give her an upadesha. First and foremost: “fasting”.
Student: fasting on Thursdays.
Gurujī: Yes. First, fasting on Thursdays. Without fasting…if you are not going to fast, forget it! I cannot do anything, and nobody can do anything. You will go through the result of your karmas. Nobody can change your Bhāgya. Don’t try to think that people who are sitting out here will do tantrik pooja and change God’s will. So, the only way you can do, is to fast, and to make a sincere prayer. It is between you and God and no third party. Here, there is no politician that will be distributing ticket. So, fasting on Thursdays, is clear? First thing is fasting. This is your Dharma as a Jyotiṣa. As a Jyotiṣa, you must tell. Whether the native do it or not, is not your job. But you don’t fail in your Dharma. So, you must tell them to fast. If somebody comes to you and ask for wedding. You are seeing the problem and you have to analyze overall. In this case, it is Upapada. Let us assume that this person doesn’t have any other problem, then, fasting is a must. Fasting is on which day? Thursday. What else? Which avatar?
Student: Kṛṣṇa avatar.
Gurujī: Why is the Moon better than Ketu? Is it better in Ketu? Ketu in Upapada will give a spiritual spouse, a very spiritual one. So, tell me. Can you an avatar of Viṣṇu? You switched from Viṣṇu to Kṛṣṇa, because of the Moon. Why did you switch in the first place? Why did I say Viṣṇu avatar? I did not say Viṣṇu avatar. I said, “an avatar of the deity”. It is not …. you haven’t even checked is it a male horoscope or a female horoscope. Suppose, this was male horoscope, and you did something for making him to marry another man. Then? That will be a disaster. If it is a male horoscope, the Upapada is a female, the deity has to be a female. If it a female horoscope, the Upapada is a male, and it has to be a male deity. Please do mercy on me, and follow this rule, strictly. Don’t do mistake in this. If somebody has Upapada in Mithuna, then don’t say “Viṣṇu”, blindly. If it a woman, you have to say, Viṣṇu. But if it is male, what do you have to say? This list. I have to give you this list. Let us make a list of the deities involved.
Male horoscope, it will be a form of Laxmi for a male? For Sūrya, who is linked to Sūrya? For a male, when you are giving mantra, you treat the female that Is coming, as Devī parvati. The person who is doing the sadhna, is like Śiva himself. And the person he will marry, who is going to come in his home, is his shakti. See the wife, as shakti. Then, he will have good kids. Whereas, the woman, when she is looking at the man, when she is praying for a man, she should look at the man as Viṣṇu. See the difference. I am not saying Śiva here. There is a reason. Think on it and you will understand. When the male is treating the forthcoming wife, as Laxmi, there can be a fault that can develop or already there in the male. He will look for money, and if the money is not there, then he won’t treat the wife as Laxmi. This is wrong. The wife that Is coming, don’t look at her bank balance. This is wrong. You are marrying the girl because you like the girl. Because she is going to be the mother of your children, not because how much money she has got in the bank. Right? So, what are you looking for? You are looking for Devī Parvati, who will be a good mother. The man is looking for a woman who will be a good mother. And, which form of the Devī when we are talking of the mother? Devi Parvati, Gouri. So, the man must look at the woman as Parvati. And, the ten avatars are called Dasa Mahavidya. The wife that Is going to come in your house, is Mahavidya. That Mahavidya, Devī, will come to your home. And, you will have good fortune in your life. This is a way, that the man should look at with, his wife. He should not look at his wife….. till they are married. After they are married, it’s a different issue. I am talking of till the point of marriage. Till he is married, he should not look at her wealth, it is very wrong. All this dowry etc.. this is totally wrong.
Similarly, if a woman has to look at the man, she should look at the man for sustenance. That is why she is looking at Viṣṇu. Because if she looks at Śiva, at a man who is like Śiva, or you are looking at him; he will not marry. He will have two pieces of cloth and will sit on the top of the Himalayas, why would will he marry you. Will you marry? Tell me. I ask the woman, “will you marry a man who wears two pieces of cloth and who sits on top of the Himalayas? How many of you will marry him? When you will not marry him; then why do you worship your husband in that form? You want your husband to be wearing a mukut, means a position. Good clothes, silken, jewels, you want him to be wearing good clothes, being able to sustain you. Right? So, at the time of marriage, the woman must worship Viṣṇu avatar. And, at the time of marriage or before marriage, a man should worship Devī. Is it clear? Dasa Mahavidya are there and dasa avatar are there. NO. NO. NO. Mahavidya does not have to be ugra. They are not at all Ugra. They are very nice Soumya forms. It is you who look at them ugra because what these books do. You know. Because they sell a lot of ugra stuff. It sells. Don’t go for the …. for example, Tara. you can worship as Ugra Tara, you can worship her as Ekajata, you can worship her as Nila Saraswati Ma. You can worship. It depends upon you. I would like to worship her as tara. Baglamukhi is the perfect vaishnavi shakti. She is yellow. She is mother of Hanuman. Why is she.. see the point is that the moment you are talking of her as bagalathen you are talking of her as a warrior Goddess. Bagala is still strong, there are other forms like, let’s say Pitambara. it depends on what you wish to call her. But remember one thing, if a man has got Maṅgala in Upapada, his vivaha will be very difficult. Problem will happen. So, he needs to worship Pitambara so that he can get over his own weaknesses, and look at his wife properly. Weakness is in you. If you worship like this then you will not look at your wife in a wrong manner. Somebody could say, “my wife is like Maṅgala, she troubles me a lot”. Instead of that you will look at your wife and say, “she is bagalaa”. Son will also come and he will be like hanuman. See the difference in the perspective. So, it’s a question of what you want.
Student: (unclear)
Gurujī: is this a female Kuṇḍalī?
Student: This is a female Kuṇḍalī.
Gurujī: Yes, this is a female Kuṇḍalī.
Student: So, this is a female Kuṇḍalī.
Gurvī Sarbāṇī Rath: It could be one of the dasa avatars.
Gurujī: Okay, tell me. Which one of the dasa avatar? Moon indicates Kṛṣṇa. And, Moon is with Ketu. So, Kṛṣṇa has avatars also. Tell me.
Students: (no answer)
Gurujī: Kṛṣṇa also have avatars. Doesn’t he? Bal Gopal is an avatar. Jagannath is an avatar. Vitthal is also an avatar. Rukmini Vallabh is also an avatar. There are more, how many would I tell you.
Gurvī Sarbāṇī Ji: Venkatesh
Gurujī: Venkatesh is also an avatar? No, Venkateshwar is Balaji. Tell me avatars of Kṛṣṇa. So, Moon with Ketu? = Jagannath, Param Brahm Svaroop. Where the question of Ketu comes, it’s Jagannath. Moon with Ketu means that Kṛṣṇa has taken that form, when Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān left body, his remains were sent to Orrissa. Read about Jagannath’s maya.
Student: There is Subhadra ji there. So, what Is the meaning of that?
Gurujī: Jagannath’s wife was kept outside. Her temple is separate inside the Jagannath temple. And, Jagannath’s mother is separate on the right in the Jagannath temple. So, yellow color is of Subhadra. Both brothers has kept their sisters in the middle. The bagala that you are saying is actually be seen in Subhadra.
Student: So, this Chandra with Ketu….
Gurujī: And, Kṛṣṇa was so particular that Subhadra should only marry Arjun. How could he else. He was adamant on this. Whichever side Subhadra goes, that side will definitely win and other side will lose.
Student: So, this Chandra with Ketu represents Jagannath.
Gurujī: Yes. It has to be Jagannath. Worship Jagannath on Guruvara.
Student: (unclear)
Gurujī: It’s in the sea, (pisces), the Upapada. Clearly, she will get results immediately. Kleem krishnaaya jagannaathaaya swaahaa.
Student: Is it in the book?
Gurujī: yes, all these mantras are in the book. Okay? Read more. The more you read about, the better it is. Moon is Kṛṣṇa. So, any Kṛṣṇa form will help. Why not some….why not worship Matsya Avatar? But he gave the argument that Sattva Guṇa Rāśi has Sattva Guṇa Graha so, we should prefer Sattva Guṇa to the lower gunas. This argument is a correct argument. We should always go towards upper guna. But if Ketu is in Upapada, and the girl worships matsya avatar, she will get a gyani husband. You will marry a rishi, like a rishi he will be, a very very spiritual person because of bala of Ketu. Okay? You have understood Upapada.
From where will you see up to which age Vivaha will survive and will break at what age. Family of the husband; how will it be. If Upapada lord is exalted, or if the Graha sitting in Upapada is exalted, it will be a high class family. And if the lord of Upapada is Neecha or the Graha sitting there is neecha, the family will be poor. The type of Graha sitting there, tells you about the kind of family the husband belongs to. If Rāhu is there, the person can be foreigner. If Ketu is there, the husband might belong to a rishi like family. Ketu indicates rishi family, because Ketu represents parampara, not Bṛhaspati. See, we were talking about matsya avatar, who saved the vedas? Veda, Saptarishi, and matsya avatar are linked closely. It is Ketu. So, if Ketu is in Upapada, the husband might belong a rishi like family. Likewise, you can describe the family of the forthcoming husband, based upon the planet sitting over there. If a papa Graha is sitting there,…. See, basically we check whether the Graha is Uccha or Neecha. If the Graha sitting over there, is Uccha, then the husband is from a strong lineage. If that Is Neecha, then Lineage is weak. That doesn’t matter in Kaliyuga. What matters in Kaliyuga is “2nd from Upapada”, up to what time the Vivaha will survive. And why does it break. And, if it breaks, the reason should be known to us. If we know the reason of breaking of vivaha, and if we in advance, guard it and suppress it, then vivaha will carry on till last. Understand, that, when we know that the marriage is going to break like this, then, from day one, we can precaution and guard. Why will the marriage break? So, it is necessary to understand that It is necessary to take precaution. Second from Upapada will decide what will be the cause of the breakage of the marriage: 2nd house from Upapada. Which house is Māraka? 2nd and 7th. So, see the 2nd and 7th from Upapada. They will tell you why the marriage is breaking. 2nd house will tell when It will break. The reason for breakage will be told by the 2nd from Upapada. 7th house will tell which people will be always be against this marriage. Who are the people who are opposing you and the marriage. Who is opposing and who is supporting? Who are the people who will always keen to stab you in the back. So, in this particular case, Upapada was in Mīna Rāśi with Ketu and Moon over there. Where is Jupiter? Jupiter is in Lagna in gemini. Does this person’s spouse belong to a good family or a bad family or what sort of family. With the Moon, you will say is it a good family? With Ketu, can you say that It is from a Top Brahmin’s family like a rishi’s family, like a top brahmin family? Because Ketu is in moola Trikoṇa, why did you miss that out. See, I have not finished this case, and I wanted to catch you over here. You chose Moon. But you see that Ketu is in the Moola Trikoṇa. Any Graha exalted or in moola Trikoṇa, what Is better than such a Graha?
Why should we ignore that and why should I take the Moon? If Ketu is exalted in sagittarius, it is exalted. Exalted Graha is exalted. Exalted Graha is the best. Here, Ketu is in mooltrikonaa, it is beautiful. It shows the husband can be from a rishi parivar. And it is with the Moon, and it could be a rishi parivar coming from a very good lineage. Right? Surprised? You will be surprised that Ketu’s own house, I.e., mooltrikonaa, and exaltation are both in jupiter’s house, a rishi family, a brahmin family. So, then it is possible that this girl will be marrying somebody who is like that, like, from a good family. Good rishi parivar. Why should a give Kṛṣṇa’s mantra? Why not Ketu’s mantra? Matsya avatar mantra! Which is stronger? Which Graha is stronger? Also, we know in Jyotiṣa that If a bad planet conjoins a good planet, then, Ketu will give the results of Moon and Moon will give the results of Ketu. Why will I not give Ketu-mantra, so that she get’s Moon-result? Do you know this? When two Graha make yoga, they give result of each other. Take all this into consideration before giving mantra. In this, matsya avatar manytra will be better because Ketu is in mooltrikonaa. If we see closely, this is correct.
So, if we study the chart like this and know what Is happening, and what sort of family the person will marry; who will be the people who will oppose the marriage? 7th house from Upapada, will decide that who will always oppose. Rāhu is there, so, foreigners will oppose. If 7th from Upapada has Rāhu, then the marriage will break once you go abroad. So, there is a danger. 7th from Upapada: foreigners will oppose; or it means that, your husband could have a relationship with some foreign lady over there. That means you have to keep serious vrata of thursdays, and worship Matsya avatar to bring your husband out of these turbulent waters. Okay?
Student: This Ketu is the lord of ….
Gurujī: whatever lord is this.. but it is sitting in the 7th from Upapada.. so, it will break the marriage.
Student: And, what will be the mantra?
Gurujī: Om Namo Bhagvate Mahaamatsyaaya. It is the mantra of Bhagvat puraan. There is no Bījaakshara for matsya avatar, as long as I remember. So, the mantra is Om Namo Bhagvate Mahaamatsyaaya. Right? Yes, this is the right one. I can’t go wrong in Dvādaśākṣarī. Although sometimes, I do make errors in longer ones.
Okay? are you clear? So, Upapada is teling us all about the marriage. If the 7th lord…. If Mercury is in 7th house, relatives will cause a problem. For example, husband’s uncle or relatives will cause problems. If Moon is in 7th house from Upapada, it’s a worst situation. mother-in-law cause so much problems, it’s unfathomable. Worst is the situation when Upapada is in Makara, 7th lord is Moon. Mother-in-law will definitely cause problems. Check the horoscope of Menaka Gandhi. Upapada is in virgo, and Moon is in 7th house. Upapada has exalted Mercury. What a home that she was married into. You see? One exalted Mercury gave her such a miracle of a fortune in Delhi.
Virgo sign: a Graha virgo, will definitely give superb results in Delhi. So, Mercury is exalted in virgo, saw how it lifted her from what to what. She married Sanjay Gandhi. Sanjay Gandhi was literally like, you know, somebody marrying Akbar’s Son, and we read history and we feel like wow she got married to Akbar’s son. Akbar ruled about tiny kingdom. And, all the time, he fought to keep the kingdom together. Look at the size of India now. How much of an organized government, the prime minister has got. So, her son, that’s Indira Gandhi’s son. Her son is the exalted Mercury in the Upapada. See, how it gave her results. And, Moon sat in the 7th house. We get to know from Upapada, the family one marries into. Exalted Mercury she has got. So, the point is that “are you going to benefit from exalted Mercury in your chart, or not? Please study Menaka Gandhi horoscope before the next class. Please. In the next class, we will take up her chart and we’ll find why she had married into such a big family. What….How can we confirm? Could everybody marry Sanjay Gandhi like that? What was the reason? Why her marriage ended like that? She ended up widow early, right? I want you study why she became a widow. Marriage, Widowhood, I want you to study everything clearly. Was her father in law there? 12th from Upapada will indicate those who will not attend your marriage. Secret enemy is there. Either it will be a secret or it will not attend. And, Even if that person attends the marriage, will only come for few minutes, and then will go. Upapada’s 12th house, that person will not attend the marriage. Her Upapada is in kanya Rāśi, 12th lord is Sūrya, so, her father-in-law… We will add the word “in-law” with everything; Moon is Mother+in-law, Sun is father+in-law. Sun is lord of the 12th house, so, father in law, was he there at the time of marriage? 12th house: he will not be there, he will not attend. He was not there. Like this, you have to study it. What is the time now? I that will be enough for today. It’s a heavy dose.
Student: what about lordship
Gurujī: yes, yes, yes, we cannot ignore lordship. We just cannot ignore lordship. If Makara has Upapada, I have seen in 99% of the cases, mother-in-law will cause problems definitely. Even though sometimes, Moon’s position in other places becomes alright.
