Vedic astrology teaches us about life; it gives us an opportunity to observe the nature of things, their energy, and the impact of one upon another. When we speak of Maṅgala, an Agni-tattva graha, we find a very fiery, war-like attitude, a spark of energy. Ruling natural Meṣa, it has a leadership-oriented, fiery, instigating, and conflict-prone nature. Maṅgala is a warrior who spends a lot of time in battles; it indicates the self and innate nature. Meṣa is the rāśi of the exaltation of Sūrya.
Śukra, being the opposite energy, prefers beauty, marriage, and relationships. Śukra is interested in having children, love, comforts, and enjoyment of life. It is a complete Jala energy. It rules natural Tulā rāśi—the rāśi where Śani exalts, reminding us of rebirth because of our sins and desires.
Just observe: it is a well known fact that Śani debilitates in Meṣa and Sūrya debilitates in Tulā, so here is the conflict, in every manner, between these opposite signs and energies.
Jala-tattva and Agni-tattva are enemies and will provide severe conflict if they are found in conjunction. In Jyotiṣa, there is a special term that describes the conjunction of Agni and Jala, and it is called Gaṇḍānta. So this combination of Ve and Ma in conjunction is usually also called Gaṇḍānta Yoga. This conjunction brings a tendency to destroy relationships and marriage, or simply to waste life on enjoyments—it depends on which graha is stronger.
Let’s examine this conjunction in the charts of famous people.
In the chart of Adolf Hitler, we find this combination of Śukra and Maṅgala. Ve is the Lagna Lord; it is also AK, and it is severely damaged by Ma MKS in the 7th bhāva and Me MKS. Bādhakeśa Sūrya adds to that affliction. Sa puts graha dṛṣṭi, and Ju, being the 6th Lord, adds to the affliction.
We should also mention that for Tula Lagna, Ma is a terrible graha, being a māraka, and Tula rāśi has an Agni doṣa problem. This is a terrible Ma in the 7th, providing wars and death instead of life and creation. The 7th bhāva is Bhū-loka and life in Bhū-loka; that is what it is all about. There are two options in this bhāva—love or war. For such an afflicted kāraka Śukra, there can be only war and no love.
If Śukra is afflicted, there will be suffering in relationships, and the partner suffers setbacks. Śukra here is AK, 8th L, and Ju’s dṛṣṭi here adds to the picture. We can conclude that Śukra is cursed and marriage is denied and delayed.
There is a saying: “If a person cannot love at least one human being in this world, he can’t love this world at all.” All the women he had affairs with committed suicide or were found shot, like Geli Raubal. She was Hitler’s niece, to whom he was extremely attached and with whom his relationship appears to have been highly controlling. In 1931, at the age of 23, she was found dead in his Munich apartment with a gunshot wound. Her death was officially ruled a suicide using Hitler’s pistol, although many later theories and speculations surrounded the case. Unity Mitford shot herself in the head. Renate Müller fell from the window. Only Maria Reiter, among his women, was the luckiest one and survived. This suicidal tendency can be brought by Ke’s dṛṣṭi, but here we clearly see that someone helped them to die. Śani dṛṣṭi confirmed an untold suffering for his women.
Eva Braun was the one whom he decided to marry, and as he activated this 7th bhāva, his death came the same day (Me 12th L MKS, māraka Ma MKS Lord of UL and Bādhakeśa Su gives work to Maṅgala as well).
When we see such cases, we should pay attention to Navāṃśa as well; we can’t ignore it and come to a conclusion. In Hitler’s Navāṃśa, Śukra is afflicted by Ma, Ke, and Ra. Ma and Ke are called Piśāca, which proves all the thoughts described above on this conjunction.
Here is another example of a Ma-Ve conjunction. Siṃha Lagna, Ma is the 4th and 9th L in the 10th bhāva in digbala. Ve is the 3rd L in the 10th bhāva in its own sign. Ra and Me are with Śukra. So, technically, Śukra is with her nīcanātha (the Lord of the debility sign), Me, Ra, and Ma, bringing affliction to Ve.
Ra will surely bring cheating in spousal relationships, Ma will cause some injuries, and Me insists that marriage is all about financial interest.
Her marriage to Henri IV was dynastic and financial, not a love match. They married in 1600. Nevertheless, it was not simply a marriage of mutual hatred: contemporary observers noticed genuine affection between them, and Henri initially spoke favourably of her attractiveness and personality. The fundamental problem was his extraordinary infidelity. His continuing relationship with Henriette d’Entragues, marquise de Verneuil, repeatedly humiliated Marie and produced serious marital quarrels.
7th L in the 5th bhāva, Śani, insists it was a forced marriage, full of mutual hatred and sorrow. Marie was married to one of Europe’s most notoriously unfaithful kings and endured repeated public humiliations from his mistresses. There is Jāra Yoga formed as well, with Ra, 7th L, in the 10th, conjoined with this Ma-Ve and 2nd L Me, which only adds to the conflict.
In any case, the combination that is called Gandānta Yoga is not good for relationships and married life, and, as we proved, it can also ruin lots of lives. We should always carefully check afflictions to Śukra and examine Navāṃśa and Saptāṃśa as well.
